In order to give recognition to the best of the best in the world of gardening, the members of Dave's Garden have nominated and subsequently voted on their favorites in the world of gardening.
This is different than any other "editorial award" program you've ever seen, where a group of people behind closed doors use politics and other private means to determine who gets which award.
Rather, this is a a 100% member-driven award program, where the awards have been selected by our membership!! This follows with our slogan of "For Gardeners... By Gardeners"
The Troy-Bilt line of products from Garden Way took first place, beating out John Deere by a margin of 5 votes.
Park Seed Company cleaned up the awards this year, snatching up the first place award in the Best Overall Gardening Organization category. They narrowly escaped defeat by the Seed Savers Exchange, who received only 4 fewer votes.
The Home and Garden Show, without representation from any one organization, drew first place in the Best Gardening Show or Event, crushing their competitors with over 80% of the votes. Cheers to all local H&G events!
The toughest competition this year was in this category, best Print Magazine. Organic Gardening takes first place with 19% of the votes. Runners up:
"American Horticultural Society A To Z Encyclopedia Of Garden Plants" takes first place in the Best Gardening Book category. The book is written by Christopher Brickell, published by Dorling Kindersley Publishing, and has the ISBN number of 0789419432.
This was the toughest category to vote on, as there are so many wonderful members at Dave's Garden. Many voters abstained from this category, and with good reason - who wants to just name one member? In any event, congratulations to Brook and poppysue for tying as the most helpful and knowledgeable Dave's Garden members! You both deserve it!
Who doesn't love the Dave's Garden Forums? Questions are answered, problems are solved, lives are shared, pictures are shown, plants and seeds are traded, and so much more happens each and every day on the Dave's Garden forums.
Thanks to all the Dave's Garden members who took the time to nominated the candidates, and went back later for the actual voting process. We had 119 members vote on these awards, and I think the winners truly do represent the best of the best in the world of gardening. Until March, 2002!
