The much smaller male was sitting on her back, but hopped off after I disturbed it. They were on a nearby Calotis lappulacea bush when I found them. The vegetation community consisted of ironbark (Eucalyptus crebra), wilga (Geijera salicifolia), tree pear (Opuntia tomentosa), and Lantana (Lantana camara), with a grassy and weedy understorey.
I showed the photo to the entomologist David Rentz, who tells me it is the Southern Form of Monistria pustulifera. |
