Misery in Missouri!Well, once again, Mother Nature has made life around these parts quite interesting. A record-breaking amount of snow in late winter, frost right up until a couple weeks ago, tornadoes, and flooding! not easy for us waiting to get our hands dirty!!! Despite all the odds against it, many of my plants have begun to thrive and bloom.

Spring Fever...Well, we still have a foot of snow on the ground, but I am ready to get my gardening on haha! Guess I have to give the ground time to warm up.

Oh no....FROST!As a new gardener, I have had such a good time tending to my plants, learning the ropes, enjoying my successes but learning from my failures. Just as my flowers have gotten some rain and cooler temps...and looking GORGEOUS we are having frost-ugh! Is it normal to feel sad and a little panicked at the thought of the first freeze!!? LOL- well I do! :(

Surprise flower!A couple of days ago I was weeding and almost pulled one, but noticed it looked a bit different. Sure enough, it bloomed! Now this is embarrassing (remember I am a newbie at this!), but, it is a Sunflower, right?

Having a heat wave!!Well, as many of you are probably experiencing as well, it has been a hot, dry spring and summer. Not to mention, this was my very first attempt at "regular" gardening (not just containers) I certainly have had more failures rather than success's, but have learned a lot. Also, I get SO thrilled when I see plants that are flourishing!

Happy to be a new member!I was raised a city girl...a prissy one at that. I had never planted anything...don't care to be dirty and have a severe bug phobia! However...after moving to a small town I got a job working in a lawn and garden department. I was horrified...why would anyone want to dig in dirt!? I did not know an annual from a weed and quite frankly didn't care to learn, but after a very short time I was amazed by how beautiful flowers could be, and intrigued to learn about them. It has become a hobby and a passion. It is by far the most rewarding pastime I have ever had...I am so amazed at how spending time with plants and nurturing them can give you a sense of peace...and a lot of joy. Of course, being a baby gardener I have made a lot of mistakes and have SO much to learn. So I am so excited to find this site and share questions and gain knowledge from people with the same interests!
