Right On TimeI and DH have been agued back and forth about the timing of its blooms. DH thought that sometimes, our mind can play tricks on us. In August I thought the lily failed to bloom for the year. But here it's after some rains; the inflorescents popped up from nowhere! Like magic-lily, or Spider Lily, it's a type of Lily in the South.
I need to rename the crinum "friendship crinum" for a distant friend has shared this crinum with me in years past.

The Inflo. After several rainfall, the crinum sent out a big stalk of flower this month. Truly a pleasant sight.

Queen Emma Crinum Today. As usual, the weight of the flowers outweighed the inflorescence. The flowers stalk was found drooping yesterday. Today I made a bouquet out of the cut flowers with gingers leaflets.

What\'s a Difference a Day Made? The inflorescence has grown "exponentially" as J. has said it. The rain last night and onto this morning has prompted its fast growth rate I am sure.

Voodoo Lily. The three bulblets from my old one kept in a hanging basket still haven't sprouted, dispite the fact that it has been kept damp. Forgot that I planted Mary's bulb in the front of the border, and last week it was already a foot tall.
The other two from Janlyn were planted in a hanging basket, still no sight of sprouting on those.
6/15/08: update, one of the 3 sprouted this week. Also learned that the old bulb/tuber become used up and wither away. Will find a permanent home for these bulbs as they all sprouted.

Formosa Lilies from Mary G. and SandraCan't quite remember which is which, but one bulb is growing quite big. The seedlings are thriving as well. 3 stalks, oddly without bulbs. I think they're spent, hoping to see little bulblets sprouting from the base; but I afraid there isn't such lucks.

Forcing Lily bulbsMary D's and Sandra's Formosan Lilies bulbs. Initially I wanted to store these bulbs, but one already sprouted so I went ahead and forced these bulbs and will overwinter them indoor as an experiment. Gave them some Osmotcote 14-14-14 initially will observe, record the result.
Met up with fellow DGer fron Illinoise; we're interested to buddy up and expand our possibility with growing Lilies/brugs. An exciting idea.

Voodoo Lily leaves are turning yellowUnsure if this is a bad sign. Last year the leaves stayed green much later in the season. Hope we're NOT losing this plant.
6/15/08: As I learnt that the older tuber does wither after its growing cycle. New offspring, this one yielded 4, this is one that sprouted in a hanging basket, though very late in the season. Another escape cultivation and is almost a foot tall out in the garden.
Thursday, July 26, 2007
Casa Blanca and Black Beauty (?)Wasn't sure if our white Oriental Lily was Casa, some thought it was "Ice-dancer" until Carolyn's Casa bloomed this summer. Hers is identical to mine! Hence, Casa Blanca we've!!!!

Glory Lily!Thought perhaps I lost all 5, but no. It's taking it sweet time coming up. I poke a small hole into the planting medium try to dress up the pot with some trailing flowers* And there it was, a plump shoot is 2 inches under the surface. Yeah!!!!! Made my day.

Lilies & more lilies....Those potted lilies are doing well, as were those planted in the garden. The spring bulb bed were underplanted with alot more lilies than I remembered. (Agrhhh!!! This is the disadvantage of not keeping garden diary until now). Searching my memory bank, I remembered planted those lilies 6" and deeper. Perhaps, those were offsets, rewards that I'm getting now. Some Oriental lilies were identified as "Ice Dancer". Also purchased two tiger lilies from BBG's pre-spring sale. Voodoo Lily, however hasn't shown any sign of sprouting. Glory lilies either. Hmmm.
Friday, April 13, 2007
