Welcoming warm temperatures
Today the temperature reached 82 degrees and it felt wonderful! I mixed up potting soil and perlite and filled Mom's cracked birdbath with it and sowed portulaca seed, It is so hard to see where you are sowing them as they are so fine. I've got to find a way to deal with fine, tiny seed like portulaca. Have seen many suggestions but I don't think you can buy a small amount of sand. I would be afraid to mix it with sugar, because of drawing ants or bees. I watered the potting mix good, wrapped two pieces of Glad Press & Seal around the bowl of the birdbath and used duct tape or HVAC tape to tape all around the bowl and the Press&Seal. Weather is supposed to be nice all this week but possible high winds tonight. Last night it we had thunder and lightning for about an hour. I punched my air circulation holes in most of the milk jugs and made them larger so the seedling won't cook. The Calif. poppys are really tall, I opened two jugs of them up today and left the tops off to start hardening them off. I taped them back up since we are expecting wind and rain. They may have to go into the ground by end of week as they are so big. It's supposed to be in 60's all week. Yeh! I am so ready for warm weather and anxious to be able to plant out these seedlings. Wondering if I have the HVAC tape on that Press&Seal enough to keep it on from strong winds. I punched air holes in the P&S.
