All the toms have toms!Well, almost all. At least one of each variety have a tomato or two, not really many, but they are there. Some of my volunteers are being more prolific.
The sweet banana pepper has a couple of large peppers and the pickling cukes are producing, I've gotten about 6 cukes off the plants. The straight 8s have one cuke, no wheres near 8" tho!

Finally planted the veggie gardenI lost a lot of the tomato plants I had planted from seed, and even tho I marked them as to what they were, the markings disappeared. I had no idea what I had, so I went to the local greenhouse and purchased Romas, Sweet 100's, and Beefsteak. So now I have planted 2 each of Sweet 100's, Beefsteak, and Brandywine, and one yellow pear, and 5 Romas. I also planted the cukes, and 6 bell peppers of varying colors and one sweet banana pepper. I set up the watering system, and watered them. The watering system is a hose on a timer with a soaker hose, so no overtop watering, and hopefully no powdery mildew, etc.
The mosquitoes were horrific and nothing worked to deter them. I think they are hiding in the stand of last year's parsley.

Still haven't planted my gardenIt has been so rainy and the ground is soaked and I am lazy!

Stay away from greenhouses!I lost my cukes to the bad weather and a few tomatoes to damping off. Also lost one of the banana peppers I bought in the last entry.
So I absolutely had to go out to get more cukes. I bought Straight 8s, vining (I hope) pickle cukes, lavender, and a really beautiful pink green and white sweet potato vine. I got the straight 8s, the lavender, and the sweet potato vine at a local greenhouse. All their pickle cukes were bush so I had to go elsewhere for that.
You should have seen me walking through the green house holding my hand to my eyes to get past all those tomatoes I don't have to get to the cukes! I was really good and did not buy any tomatoes!
Since they had only bush pickle cukes, I went to Anderson's who also only had bush pickle cukes, and I was very good and did not get any other plants. I did get some groceries.
I finally found some pickle cukes that at least did not say bush on the tag at Meijers. No one at the store could tell me whether they were bush or vining, so I hope they are vining.
The garden is not yet planted, and it was cold today.
I promise the garden will be planted this week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday as it is supposed to rain tomorrow. I want to get some peat moss to amend the soil.

Potted some seedlings and bought some plantsWho can resist? Note to self, don't go to greenhouses! Bought 4 pack of sage, a 6 pack of Brandywines, and a 6 pack of sweet banana peppers. Like I really needed more tomato plants!
I transplanted some of my seedlings into 5" peat pots, those that were getting their true leaves. All the cukes, three to a pot, the cherry, the romas, and the lunch mates, all went into the pots.

Phil came over...to collect his eggshell tomato seedlings, an experiment he did by taking half egg shells and using coffee grounds as the growing medium. I babysat them for 2 weeks while he and JoAnn were in California.
I gave him seedlings,4 Romas, 4 cherries, 4 Lunch Mate, and 4 Beefsteak tomatoes, as well as the 2 Jalapeno that haven't sprouted yet. I want to give him some of the mixed tomatoes, but, since not all sprouted, and none have their true leaves yet, I could not tell which was which.

Peppers just starting to sproutStill, not all of the mixed tomatoes have sprouted.
Next year I am going to do this quite differently, maybe get some 4" pots like that guy on youtube did. I wonder what medium he used?

Seeds planted indoorsToday I finally planted vegetable seeds indoors for my garden. I know I'm late! I planted several types of tomatoes, peppers, cukes, and some sweet basil. I already have Italian parsley and oregano growing, and the lovage I planted last year is coming up. This year the parsley will go to seed and new plants will grow from that seed next year. The leaves are still good to eat before the plants flower. I also a]ready have some chives and onions coming up from last year's planting.
Types of tomatoes planted:
6 Super Sweet 100 Cherrys
6 Lunch Mate
6 Super Beefsteak
17 Show Mix
Show mix consists of Golden Mama and Tangerine Mama pastes, Razzle Dazzle slicer, Italian Ice cherry, and HoneyBunch currant. I planted almost all the seeds so I can make sure I get at least one plant of each hybrid.
Types of cukes planted:
3 Straight Eights
Types of peppers:
8 Kaleidoscope mix
The Kaleidoscope mix consists of Horizon, Purple Beauty, Midnight Dreams, Sunbright, Emerald Green, Lilac Bell, California Wonder, and White Cloud. Again, I planted almost all the seeds so I can make sure I get at least one plant for each cultivar.
and finally 8 Sweet Basil.
I will have a small garden and will also be planting peas, pole beans, lettuce, and maybe some other stuff. The extra plants I will give to my brother.
I'm pretty sure I will be able to tell the mix tomato plants apart once they germinate and grow a bit. I'll keep one of each and give the rest to my brother. He will be getting 4 Romas, 4 cherries, 4 Lunch Mate, and 4 Beefsteak tomatoes along with the extras of the mix, I will keep one of each. Also, he will get the Jalapenos because I don't like hot foods and I planted them just for him! I haven't decided how many of the other peppers I'll give him as I'm pretty sure I won't be able to tell which plant is which.
