A beloved hardy perennial in many gardens, the "flag" or "sword lily" is also the stylized flower of the classic "fleur-de-lis" pattern found in ancient coats of arms, wallcoverings and carved reliefs.

After you've browsed through PlantFiles to make your selections, check out the Garden Watchdog to find a source of modern Irises or older varieties. For more reading, the Bookworm has several Iris books to consider.
