The Carolinas were among the first dozen states formed in the U.S., named in honor of England's King Charles I. Separate governors were appointed for NC and SC in 1712. Lush flora abounds in this region; South Carolina is aptly nicknamed the Palmetto state, with the Carolina Yellow Jessamine (or Jasmine, as many still refer to it) as its state flower.

North Carolina is nicknamed the "Old North State" (but better known as the Tarheels), and its state flower is the Flowering Dogwood.

From massive
Christmas tree farms to historic gardens, the Carolinas have many places for gardeners to visit. Be sure to add photos and reviews of all your favorite gardening spots!
