synda wrote: Ours has been OK all summer.The thing we used wasn't actually the dish it self,it was the cover they put over the satilite element when in shipment.Ours is around 2 1/2 ft deep in the center.But the mini ponds that you buy like at Lowes sometimes aren't very deep and the are made of black plastic,which I think would get hotter.And with having it in the ground the earth would keep it cooler and the fountain keeps the water moving and that cools it also.Before when we lived in the city I bought a little tykes swimming pool at a yard sale for $2 and just had it setting above ground and the goldfish were fine in that.Although I would lose then in the winter if the water froze solid.Feeder goldfish are just carp,and will adapt to almost anything.plus they only cost a couple dollar a dozen.
