I once had a bookstore in a small town in California and I tried many different things to bring people to the area hoping to in turn, bring them to the store. The town’s history is that of gold mining and having the first wheelbarrow factory. I approached the other merchants and the City Council and asked them to sponsor an “Art on Parade” idea using wheelbarrows. These wheelbarrows would be decorated by artists and anyone who was interested. It was a huge success and the wheelbarrows were displayed on Main Street for the summer months. Of course, I had to contribute.
We had two wheelbarrows to pick from. One was in a regular horizontal position and the other was a standing position. I got my best friend involved and together we came up with this design using the standing position. We used shovel and trowels as the heads and mosaic the “bodies”. It was so much fun.
