We have three fireplaces and I can build a fire and maintain it as well as DH. I grew up around a wood burning furnace and a wood cook stove although our sole job in those days was splitting and hauling the firewood.
That said, I want input on using a box heater. I have little or no knowledge and took it for a testdrive today.
The paperwork said to put a layer of sand on the floor of the firebox and I did. It didn't have a grate and said it wasn't necessary. I (and DH) felt it would have made a difference.
One of the questions I had was for recommendations on setting the flue and the draft door?
In what position do I want them set to start the fire?
To maintain that fire?
To slow the fire down?
Any other suggestions or ideas you can share will be appreciated too!
