I cut some trim out from some scrap wood and wedged it in between the legs and wood glued it to reinforce and then sanded it a bit and painted it .If you want to get in a little deeper you could always mosaic the glass and then grout and seal it and put a nice piece of glass over the whole top to protect your work from breaking if you have little ones. or you can also stick pictures and special things inside between the glass.
