I will start out by defending myself in advance... :-) Not only am I an inexperienced gardener, I have also neglected it for over a year due to illness. Yesterday was my first day out there puttering since Fall 2010 !! Yikes, heaven only knows what's in there, I don't remember most of what I planted that long ago. I'm impressed that whatever they are, they have survived without attention.

At any rate, here are pictures of two plants which I have no clue what they are. I believe they are flowers--salvia? maybe--but who knows, they might just be weeds that I need to yank out. There was a plant stake near the one but we're not sure it actually went with that plant, or fell there from another plant, and the photo on the stake is useless for ID'ing the leaves. The leaves are similar on both plants but not identical so I suspect they're two different plants; but again I could be wrong. Both have leaves which are veined and slightly bumpy; the second plant is less bumpy than the first. Also, the second plant has another type of leaf popping up within it. I think that taller, more-slender-leaved one *is* truly a weed but, again, I hate to pull it and then find out it's part of a real plant.

If anyone can ID them I'd be appreciative.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Cindi
