    Hi! This fern grows in dappled shade in zone 5b. It has what appears to be seed pods (red photo) but maybe those are dead leaves from last year. However, when I crushed them they turned into fine black dust that looked like seeds.

    The photograph on the right is what I think might be what the fern would look like when it's mature. There are a lot of ferns in the swamp so it could be a different species. Does anyone know what type of fern this is?
