Photo of fern, zone 5b

Hi! This fern grows in dappled shade in zone 5b. It has what appears to be seed pods (red photo) but maybe those are dead leaves from last year. However, when I crushed them they turned into fine black dust that looked like seeds.

The photograph on the right is what I think might be what the fern would look like when it's mature. There are a lot of ferns in the swamp so it could be a different species. Does anyone know what type of fern this is?
