I was standing by some marsh grass and a flight of about 12 of these abruptly flew in and splashed down right next to me and a couple of other people. I got a few shots while they milled around in the shallow water and sand and then they flew off again. Salt water in Baytown, TX (near Galveston). I won't venture a guess at the size because I don't estimate size very well, but compared to others I saw, these were relatively small.
