Even though I only have a one bath house, I decided to have my old tub taken out and have a full length shower unit installed (which I love, BTW). I had a lot of people warn me that a house with a bathtub would not sell as well, and I was devaluing the worth of my house if I did such a thing.

I only have a 2 bedroom, 1 bath house. I can't think that when the time comes to sell it anyone besides a single person or childless couple would want the place. And most adults that I know haven't used a bathtub for years. Everyone I know showers. And boy, do I love the roominess of that huge shower stall.

But I am curious; do you think that having a bathtub in the house is a requirement or not?

Personally I love the idea! I was just telling my DH the other day I wanted to do that same thing!
I do know people always say it lowers the value without a tub but im with you on this one. I just don't know why it lowers the value. People really don't use them like they used to but I guess they want to know its there if they want it.

As a Realtor, I do not think you devalued your home. As you said, the most likely buyer would be a childless couple. Many of these will be people who have already raised their children, so they will not be young. Most older people have trouble getting in and out of a regular tub so they prefer walk in showers. The only thing better would have been a 'no threshold' walk in shower that would accomodate a wheelchair. Besides, if you are not going to sell for a few years, this is an upgrade made for YOUR enjoyment!

Ceceoh,
Where did you get that corner "shampoo caddy"?
We are doing extensive remodeling and opting for NO bathtubs, but 3 showers. One shower is going to be inviting and functional even in our old age. Shower bench, accessible, grab bars, etc.

Ruby, the contractor installed it when he installed the shower walls. It is made out of the same material, some kind of acrylic.

I think I have seen something similar at Home Depot or one of those other Big Box hardware stores, though.

Plus, just let the new owner(s) install one if they want it that badly. :)
