August 21, 2007 6:28 PM | Saw this while out fishing today. I have never seen it before. Sorry about the picture quality. When we pulled into the dock, there was another one flitting across the dock and into the woods. It had a black head, reddish brown neck and chest and bright yellow legs and feet.
Two pics total. Click the image for an enlarged view.

August 21, 2007 7:55 PM | This also answers a question I have had for years. We hear a barking sound in the marshes. I thought maybe it was some kind of frog but, then I thought maybe some kind of duck made the noise. There is a blues band in Minneapolis called the Minnesota Barking Ducks. I thought the band had heard the sound, knew it to be a duck and thus, the name.
Not.
The green heron makes this sound.
