Hi guys... I'm not too keen on making another hole in the side of the house so I'm trying to find out if I can get air for a wood burning stove by connecting to the air intake line for the gas furnace just after it comes into the house... or do I have to make another hole several feet from the existing air intake hole? I hope someone has some thoughts they will be willing to share.

cordwood, I think a call to an HVAC company would get you the "fact" on whether the existing intake is a "up to code". Some local handy man too might know. Code for building is becoming quite standardized but I've never had this one come up.

I've been wondering about this since it was posted and forgot to ask the only person I know who might know..

I think it would depend on the type of combustion air supply you have - if it's connected directly to the return air to the furnace, I wouldn't mess with it without finding out first, but if it's the kind that vents the entire room the furnace is in, it might be okay, drawing woodstove combustion air from that room. There's probably a code somewhere, but it might be something they can/ or must test on-site to see if it's enough air for both.

If it was my house, I'd make another hole. Aren't they just like three inches or so?
