January 11, 2008 5:54 PM | Our 29 yr old daughter has a new mattress/box spring. I can not imagine sleeping on a mattress w/ a vinyl mattress pad as it would be hot and sticky. But she definitely needs some vinyl at the lower half of her bed as she is pre-menopausel. I use to fold and tuck a sheet in around the middle of the mattress and cover that with a mattress pad to protect the mattress. What do you gals do? |

It doesn't seem like it would be as hot and sticky as just plain vinyl. I would put the flocked side facing up.

January 14, 2008 8:19 PM | You can buy waterproof mattress pads. The vinyl layer is against the mattress, while the top layer is quilted cotton just like a regular mattress pad. I had one (I think I got it at Target) and didn't find it to be hot and sticky at all. The only problem was that every time I'd roll over, it would make a crinkly noise.
You can also buy disposable bed pads. They are vinyl on the bottom with an absorbable material on the top, just like they use in hospitals They come in several different sizes. My local supermarket carries these; they should be easy to find. |

January 15, 2008 12:26 AM | I cleaned out the basement last night and found a roll of thin yellow plastic/vinyl for out door table cloths. It is about 4 ft. wide. I will cut it a length that allows lots to be tucked in under the mattress and put the fitted matt. pad on top. We are going to clean the garage next week and heaven only knows what we will find that we did not know we had. |

June 25, 2008 4:41 PM | I just bought the cheap ones that are straight vinyl for our 3 yr old son- granted, I haven't slept on it but he sure doesn't seem to mind. When he has an accident all I do is strip the sheet and use a clorox wipe...I can imagine it would be a little more difficult to clean the padded ones. Let me know how you do it, maybe I'll upgrade when he is a little further along in making it all night =0) |
