I know this is the oddest question, but whenever I see a topiary, or a bonsai, or any other trained, pruned, manipulated plant, I wonder -- does the plant mind? I don't know if plants have "feelings" (as we would relate to them) or any sense of what is natural for them. But I do wonder if plants care that I'm pruning them. I don't have qualms about doing it for the health of the plant (at least my definition of health), but whenever I prune for appearance I always sort of apologize to the plant.

Anyone else get these empathetic feelings?
