This year the Chelsea Flower Show dates are 20-24 May.
There are 3 Themes for the floral design marquee, one is 'Forces of Nature'

I will be going to the show and will post pics of the displays.
Hope you will all think about joining in on cut flowers for our own show!

Forces of nature? Well, I could post a pic of all my smashed down cosmos from the wind, or the dug up pansies from the dogs?
I'll try to think of something more arty farty. Are we going to post them before, or after the Chelsea show?

Thats a good question Sue, I don't know, what shall we do everyone? Wait to get inspired by the show or have a go before we see what the designers do? Lets talk about it!!

I don't have much to work with right now, so I'll have to do my 'forces of nature' later in the season. I've got a floral frog around here somewhere.......................just have to find it.

Steven

ps: an idea though that just came into my head so I need to find that frog!

What ya all think about this. I don't have a whole lot goign on in the flower department yet either, but how abotu we start makign stuff as we can and getting pics together and then maybe after you come back from the show or right before the show we have our own show.

That will give us several weeks then to try and get some creative ideas and juices and maybe some flowers going.

So what does everybody think????????

Hi Steven, Do we have a man designer with us? great! hope you find your frog.
Thats is a good idea Star, no reason why we cant start putting things together until we all decide what to do.
I wasn't sure whether to put the themes all on one thread or to have them seperate, anyway we have the themes now, so thats all that matters!
Our show will be fantastic, we have designers from all over the world here on cut flowers!
I'm sure we will have lots of fun preparing for it and I can't wait to see what YOU all make!!

Hey Adele, I love the winged seeds, what are they? Thanks for bringing in some flowers. That should set off some ideas for us all!
I hadn't noticed the little tree till you mentioned it, how funny! Its a paperbark and they love water! They pop up all over the place. Do you want one? Poor Leo was concerned because he was getting water in his eyes! He follows me anywhere, rain hail or shine!
Thanks Karma, but it all drained away overnight and we've had 2 days of sunshine to dry out, (still have to wear gumboots around the lawn) The tanks are full and I haven't had to water anything for quite some time! So its all good.

sorry I haven't been on, I just finished moving and still haven't found my frog.............................I assume it's in with the rest of my vases ect. so I'll have to find those boxes.

My idea was some mini daffodils sort of spiraled around some blue spruce(if that makes sense) but the mini daffs are gone now :( I've got a bunch of plants outside in pots from my previous garden so I'll have to see if I can create anything from that.

I like the way you think SW, very clever idea for the force of nature. The pine needles in the mix of textures really sets it off and then to have thought of the separate but incorporated mix of petals is genius. Great arrangement. What are those little variegated leaves?

I'm looking forward to seeing actual pictures from the flower show, it's going to be fun.

BTW, I like your arrangement Diggerette, the taller branch brings fireworks to mind.

Thanks again for the inspiration.

Hi Steven, Interesting selection of foliage used in your arrangement, nice contrasts in colours and textures.
Like the way the flowers are in their own container... clever!
I haven't seen variagated Jacobs ladder before! look forward to seeing more of your arrangements and garden. Lucky you to have Delphiniums, I have tried several times to grow them, but they end up being eaten by slugs every time. LoL!!

Hi Candee, Don't stay awake all night thinking about flowers, LoL!! Love the way one idea bounces off another, when we see each others ideas.

Hi Terri, thanks for the compliments :) I really like that jacob ladder, it's loaded with bloom stalks this year so it should be really nice once the blue flowers are out.
I should take some pics of my 'garden' so you can see it, I recently moved so all my plants are in pots, it's an arrangement in itself!
Delphiniums are tricky, I've only ever managed to keep to alive, the one I've had for atleast 12 years so it came with me :)

Morning All,
Candee, I understand, forces of nature is such a broad and complex concept that it is hard to focus on one idea. I hope you think of something soon and get a good night sleep. I know you'll make a beautiful arrangemwnt when you do. BTW, I love the presents you made Terri!
Steven,Wow what a brillant idea using textures for representing force of nature. Adaptation is certainly one of the most powerful forces of nature. I just bougt a jacobs ladder for the first time not knowing anything about it other than it is native to the northeast and it likes shade. I'm glad to hear it has a pretty bloom

Candee, What a beautiful arrangement! Snow and ice, you did a wonderful job. Love all the details with the tiny blue flowers and the pearl pins, great idea with the wreath overhead and the Peony is perfect plant material for snow! I am impressed, well done!

Sue, HOT HOT HOT! The colours are fantastic! The box of twigs looks very good, it must have taken a long time gluing them all on, but so worth the effort.
It really is a gorgeous mix of colours and textures. The crotons and broms really make it look like Aussie bush fire. The background cloth sets everything off lovely. You should be delighted with this arrangement, I think it's your best ever!

Nice of you to say so Terri. I wish I'd had some yellows to lighten it up and I could have done more of a wind swept fire but theres still time. i may do another one if the urge strikes me. I've been cleaning windows all weekend! I'm not yet finished and plan to finish this weekend. Then its time to oil the veranda (2 years overdue) DH is not into home maintenance and we haave been here 6 years now. I started painting the veranda rails about 6 months ago, but came to a grinding halt when i had to move the golden cane palms. I still have one to move, so haven't yet re-started! GREAT! I loved the spiral one the best! Didn't it have movement? Just like a real whirlwind! Then I liked Mt Etna! Exploding from the top, and the yellow magma dripping down off the edge. Superb,
I also liked the other volcano too. Kinda style I would do I think (Theirs is perhaps a smidge better)
Some were a bit obscure, and as you said Terri, no additional info. It was probly obvious to the designer, but not to us hey?
Good news for the Aussies then! I'm looking forward to that, because I had a blank with that theme, and I'm guessing from the lack of interest in your Overture thread, that goes for everyone else too?
I'm so glad you had a good day. Was the weather nice to you? Did you get to see everything? Are you going again, or was it a one dayer?

Adele we must have similar tastes as those are my two favorites. I think the ideas are fabulous and very nice composition, but you know as I looked at them I think I have seen creations every bit as impressive right in the cut flower forums.

Well now that I have seen some of the "overture", I am convinced I could NOT do those!

And last, but not least, my Forces of Nature according to Wilma.

Notice the neatly arranged coconuts.

And BTW, that tree was straight before Wilma.

Oh hap that first one is really great and your "natural" force of nature is fine as well but a bit sad to recall. I do like the way you and nature did the coconuts.
Now are those others from your gardens the foliage is quite lovely and the colors really go together. My poor coleus have just seen too much rain I am still with fingers crossed they survive the coolness and drowning. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful Hap! I like the first two the best.
How awful to get such devastating storms! Gosh, I get the poops when I have to pick up a few branches and leaves! At least you don't have to climb up and pick the coconuts!

That's true, WW. Believe it or not, they came down with such a force that one was driven 6" into my ground which is mainly solid coral rock.

Thanks for the kudos.

I know that can happen happy, I have seen it when we have had trees fall at our cabin sometimes the limbs are driven a foot into the ground. But we don't have coral rock as you do.

Terri, they're all great, but I like the spiral the best. Really cool. The one with no additional info. . .I see white floating clouds above flowing blue isles. Okay, maybe I'm taking it too literally. Anyway, the arrangements are amazing. . .a lot of hard work and creativity. Thanks so much of sharing.

I've enjoyed the works of dgers here as well. I loved your interpretations of your own forces of nature.
