April 22, 2008 9:23 PM | I was sitting quietly in our wooded area one morning and heard a terrible racket. I thought, a Coyote, wild dog, cat or rabbit. He was making so much noise the Towhee didn't hear me sneaking up on him!! Recently they have been doing a lot of singing in the tree tops!!
Forgot to mention that his name is Elvis!!

April 27, 2008 9:17 PM | rufous sided towhee male...i have two
pair who are year round residents
the daily buffet makes moving on unappealing
they share taqble space and branch space with
the overwhelming cardinal population.
I think they offer nanny and tutoring for
fledgling cardinals |

May 2, 2008 11:53 AM | I have lived within 20 miles of where I am now for about 25 years...and never saw a towhee until I moved into my current home. That was 4 years ago...we have many trees here, and I started using shredded leaf mulch everywhere. The towhees love to scratch through the leaf litter like little chickens. :) If I'd known it was that easy to attract them, I'd have done it sooner! |
