I don't even know if this is the proper place to ask, but since I have know idea what this is, I thought I'd start here :-). It's about the size of a golf ball, on a conifer. Please and Thanks! Andrea

It looks like something from a science fiction movie. Kinda scary! LOL It looks kind of like a cypress seed, but much larger.

I hope you find out before the invasion gets serious.

You haven't seen any little green men have you?

Lol! I didn't know that cypress had a seed 'capsule'. there are 3 of these on the tree/shrub. I wonder if that is what it is.

Here is a couple photos of cypress cones. It may have started out as a cone and then the aliens attacked it.

Oh, ewwww. How do I take care of this? Do I just cut them off and that's it? Or do I have to spray it with something. Thanks for all you answers! Andrea

It probably won't hurt the juniper (yes, just cut it off), but that gall is releasing spores that could infect apples and crabs.
Try a search for cedar-apple rust. The fungus alternates between apples and junipers, but people still (mistakenly) call them "cedars".
