This is an offbeat question but I figured that veggie gardening was the best group for it. While procrastinating on completing my Master Gardener exam tonight, I was hitting Wikipedia. They mentioned that celery has a very important place in Amish weddings, being used in place of flowers in vases (a little more Googling showed that it also features in traditional dishes to be consumed at the wedding). None of the stuff I've found so far mentions the symbolism of celery for the Amish and/or how this tradition started.
I'm a gardener whose emphasis is on edibles so I find it fascinating that celery is used in this way and wanted to know more about it. |
