I am not sure if this is a native Iowa tree or a deliberately planted tree. The blossoms are extremely fragrant, especially in the evening. Anybody know what it is?

Looks more like an apple tree to me-Look at the leaf clusters.

I too think it's an apple.

Wow, that magnolia is a gorgeous tree. I think my flowers are quite a bit smaller though. I wish it was a magnolia! I didn't even think they would grow here. Here is a pic of my tree from a bit of a distance. I don't think it's quite the same form of flowers.

Ah, an apple! That would be nice too! So I will have to watch for fruit. Could it be a crab apple or do you think it's a real apple?

I found this list of apple varieties good for Iowa ... maybe it is one on this list: [HYPERLINK@www.ipm.iastate.edu]

Wow, what a great list. Even if I can't figure it out, at least now I know what kinds of apple trees I should buy in future!

It's definitely not a crab apple,so a real apple it must be.Looks like you'll get some fruit.

Fabulous! Thanks, all, for your help! Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures of my fruit in the fall!

Might be a pear, rather than an apple.

Oh! Well that would be great too! I suppose that only the fruits will tell....
