| JulieQ Cullman, AL Zone 7b May 9, 2008 | I have not been able to identify this tree. It has roundish slick leaves and now has these funny bumpy fruits hanging down. It is not a mulberry, which I will post in the next frame below. It may be some kind of alder?

| JulieQ Cullman, AL Zone 7b May 9, 2008 | This tree is different --- I think this is a mulberry. It has bigger, heart-shaped leaves, kind of fuzzy. Still has those little fruits hanging down, but they look more like long raspberries....lol Someone please confirm or deny my thoughts...Thanks.

| peachespickett Huntington, AR May 9, 2008 | Totally agree with Resin, second photo is morus rubra, first photo apparently also mulberry, but either morus rubra with fuzz-less leaves(if there is such a thing) or a different species altogether. |
| JulieQ Cullman, AL Zone 7b May 10, 2008 | Wow, if the first one is a mulberry, it sure is different from the ID book I was looking at... I did not know that the leaves can be so variable. If it is the White Mulberry (alba) it is not native. It also has a more upright form than the red (rubra). The red Mulberry makes a broad umbrella-like canopy with its limbs. I had to trim one of my red ones today, because the branches were nearly touching the ground. I will call this SOLVED for mulberry -- white and red. Thanks all. |
