Generally accepted as common knowledge, the wedding ring, also referred to as the wedding band is a ring usually made of a precious material such as gold, silver or platinum. Depending on the culture's tradition and customs, it may be worn on the ring finger, on either the left or right hand. The wedding ring symbolizes a commitment by one person to another. In most cultures, such as in the United States, UK, and Western Europe, the wedding ring is worn on the left hand. While many Eastern European cultures the wedding ring is worn on the right hand.
With many cultures, the wedding ring is the concluding gift given from one spouse to the other. In almost every culture the wedding ring is headed in the relationship by an engagement ring. In most Western Cultures, the husband and wife engrave their names and the wedding date as a sign of their commitment to each other.
