| My toilet is in my back yard along a boring wooden fence. It has gazanias, Nandina and a few geraniums in it which helps hid the fence. It is very colorful and everyone who has seen it, says it is cute. The one in the picture is very tasteful, neat and clean looking. Heck, the woman even has a brick border around it. I think it looks fine. My friend has a cement mixer in her front yard with a huge asparagus fern. Different strokes... |

| I always thought I would like to have a toilet full of flowers, but don't think in my front yard. I wonder if she will be willing to pay the fines or remove her art work. Maybe she could do some other art work on the outside of toilet to disguise it. I would take off the lid. Wonder if they will do a follow up... |

| I've been considering doing a toilet planter, for somewhere besides the front yard (although I don't live in town). My preference would be to remove the seat and tank lid. I was also thinking of planting either ferns or some other full trailing type of plant that would hang over the edges, leaving only some of the white from the bottom and maybe some from the tank showing. I would rather people be surprised when they discover it's a potty. I have a pedestal sink I am going to use one of these days.

| I had one that I made into a fountain. The neighbor thought it was a riot. My husband hated it. Funny how he accidentaly ran into it with the riding mower and broke it. |

| i wish there was an update . id like to know if she ever did take it down . im about to make a pergola out of louvered doors . my neighbors already took the liberty of cutting my wisteria back because it was getting to close to their yard (it was a foot away from the fence ). and my ivy also not on their property. they have not a single plant . i hope they like my pergola (snicker). im afraid they are going to start spraying round up .we are only separated by a 4' chain link . my yard isnt a mess but there is a ton of plants and most likely there will be more . i have a feeling they dont like a garden. i heard her say 'boy she likes to dig in that dirt dont she ' . and she called iris ,gladiolas . so i said those are iris . she said'' how do you remember the names of all this stuff''! so i said'' if you ever want anything for YOUR yard just ask ''. |

| It doesn't seem very neighborly of her but maybe that was the point!
Keeping toilets in your front yard is a personal preference. If she started to use the toilets that might be a little too personal for others, requiring some sort of intervention.
The womanly thing to do would be to shun her instead of saying anything. Raising a ruckus is more the manly thing to do and if she is enjoying the attention would sort of defeat the whole purpose. Her motives are important in any solution. lol
Take care,
Helen

Spoken like a true Southerner! My mom always said "She needs to visit Coventry". And we should ignore that person, or "polite them to death". Sometimes it took longer than others, but the person being ignored usually found some way to get back into the good graces of their neighbors.
I am not a "joiner" but my mom raised me to be polite and to think of others. Occasionally that training kicks in. And when we were shopping for our first home she said "meet the neighbors first, because even if you don't have to be buddies with them, but you have to live near them. There is too much friction in the world to deliberately add to it. Do right and be nice." So my front yard looks nice and neat, and my back yard is bordering on Eclectic Insanity .
When I was growing up, back in the dinosaur days, if you cheated or did not play nice, the other kids would shun you. You learned that if you were a jerk that you had no friends, but if you played fair and stood up for your friends (hopefully the nice kids, and not the hooligans) that they would stand up for you. But you know what? Kids now (who are now adults, as those kids have grown up) have grown up with helicopter moms swooping in and making you play with their obnoxious kid like it is your fault that he has no friends.
Kids nowadays think that they can say or do anything and that they are still entitled to play with other and make them be accepted.
I think that in many cases it is crippling them when they grow up. We are seeing an entire populace who think that it is all about "Me me me" instead of "What can I do to work well in the group?" (Good news is: the kindness is there under their selfish little hides - you just need to remind them. Often!)
I would like to see a followup on this event, so if any of you hear anything, please post the link. |

| I really love that "well bless her heart". Yes indeed BLESS HER HEART! What is wrong with these people, have they no sense of humor or creative folk art? I have a toilet which I plan to put an Angel Trumpet in the bowl and verigated Ivy in the tank. It so happens that the best place for this plant is in my side yard not the front. I however would nave no qualms about putting it in the front yard if that was where it belonged, don't think the people here in Hemet would care. Hemet used to be the "senior citizen" capital of wherever. Besides that we live on kinda a dirt road where we are able to be as funky as we like. |

| I look at the toilet as a wonderful source of white glazed porcelain to break up and use in mosaics. I have my eye out for one to use on stepping stones in a project for my grandkids to work on. |

| I know Hemet used to be for all the retired population, but no more. It really has grown up and still expanding. My best friend lives there and has a lovely home. Can't imagine why she isn't a gardening or at least garden art person. I have to try and change that for her. |

| Just now came across this story, and I have to say, if she
is willing to pay the fines, have at it.
There are far more important things for people to get their
bloomers in a bunch over. This tells me the people having a
tiff over the matter have interesting priorities. (cough)
Personally, I would never live in such an area. Reminds me of the
neighborhoods where one must ask permission to have items
approved, forbid they disturb the Feng shui in the neighborhood.
Protesting, giving the woman dirty looks, telephoning her to express
their displeasure, seriously - nothing better to do?
Leave it to the city, if they give her another fine, she will either pay
it or flush the idea. She has already paid $25.00 and is now
awaiting a court date on the 12th with her attorney. The bowl has since
filled in with flowers, so the issue seems not to be the vessel itself, but a
personal snub against Tina.
Perhaps the women who have so much time on their hands can do a
bit of volunteering in the community instead of searching for yard ornaments
which they do not approve. |

| I don't know if I could live somewhere like that, where you can't have whatever you want in your yard. I know some communities require ANY changes to be approved. That is not a place for me.
I love toilets being reused as planters. When my Mom had to have her toilet replaced she put the old one in the backyard with flowers. I know her neighbor didn't really approve, but to each thier own and they never made a big deal about it.
Fortunately, I live outside city limits; however that didn't stop one of our neighbors from tearing down our cedar fence and putting up a wire fence with railroad ties. Her goats had been getting out by loosening some of the boards and instead of putting her fence up next to ours she took the liberty of taking our's down.
The sheriff wouldn't do anything about it either. Seems like vandalism to me.
I wish her the best of luck and hope she wins. |

| Goodness, Wallflower, I can't believe your neighbor could get away with that! That was totally stupid anyway. If she had put her wire fence next to your cedar fence it would have made a lot more sense. Can't believe the sheriff wouldn't do anything either. You should have gone to small claims court. |
