Today I noticed a small withered branch on one of my healthy looking tomato plants, so I broke it off. There was a 3/4" green and brown striped caterpillar living INSIDE the stem. He'd hollowed it out like a soda straw.
I've been growing tomatoes a long time, and I've never seen a bug INSIDE a stem before. I don't think I have an infestation because it was only the one small withered branch on one plant, but I'll be looking out for that now.
Does anyone here know what this is and how to keep them from becoming a problem? Sorry for the fuzzy picture, my camera didn't want to focus that close.
