As suggested in our June thread, I envision this thread as a place to discuss Orchids with a focus on non-flowering aspects.

Let me start -
I took the camera into my Summer growing area today immediately after it stopped raining. While still wet, one could see the non-confined root tips and healthy velamen (spongy covering of the roots) very nicely.
Most of us are familiar with the long and exposed roots of Vandas and Ascocendas:
