Look who emerged this morning. She was still drying her wings as I was watering my garden. I moved her to a safe location and continued watering. Excuse my dirty nails.
She's a girl. If she was a boy, he would have a black dot in the middle of the second black line which is a scent gland.
She is worth my milkweed being eaten into nubs into the ground every year. The plants seed profusely, and I dig up the seedlings, and plant them together, so the caterpillars can change plants as they need to. After the butterflies emerge, the milkweed comes back with a vengance -- bushier than ever.
