Hi all. I am new here and I know someone in the past privided a link to my story. Well it is almost a year and a lot of work has been done. I hope you enjoy.

I can't believe it has been a year since we broke ground on our property. There have been a lot of ups and downs and many learning lessons.

We built our home ourselves and my DH designed our solar system without any prior knowledge to solar systems. We have been living off our own electric for almost a year. It is great being so self sufficient.

If you want to see our story you can read all about it at:
http://www.city-data.com/forum...-east-tennessee.html

We are also in the middle of redesigning our solar set up. Here is the link that tells that story. It will be complete in next week's installment of my story.

Lisa, are you the Lisa with the husband Mike who built the house into the side of a mountain in TN? I'm going to take the chance that you are ( I don't think there are too many couples who have done this in TN and posted on city-data, so I do think it's you, lol.) Anyway, here is the original link to your story that was on DG.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/882878/

I have followed your story with great interest, and think what you and your husband have done is wonderful, not only from an environmental, sustainable viewpoint, but I'm also in awe of anyone who can do so much of the work on their own! I wouldn't have known where to start - and would have been afraid to start even if I knew where, lol!

Thank you for sharing your story with all of us. Very inspirational. Continued good luck to you!

Dee

Thank you so much. I had some trouble with the links last night. Maybe a copy and paste too many times, lol.

For anyone who is interested in our solar design go to the original link:

And then go to page 134.

We had solar panels installed on our roof in Dec. didn't get it all set up until January--just in time for the tax incentives! I am loving no electric bill and we are hooked into the grid to sell our extra power back. I have deposited a check for almost $200 monthly since February. Loving that!

I was following your story religiously and then sickness got in our way. I kept wanting to get back to it and while at TSC I bought the latest issue of Hobby Farms and who should I see a pic of but Niki and 65. It was like seeing old friends. I was so excited. I have your city data thread in my favorites and I am going to try hard to catch up. It is so good to see you here on DG. Welcome! Please visit often.

Nice to see you posting here on DG. I, too, followed your journey until about a year ago. Since you are nearly a neighbor, I'm going to try and get in touch via your long thread on city-data and see if I can come visit your dream.

Thank you so much everyone for writing in. I am so sorry I haven't been here in awhile.

Cactuspatch- Congratulations on your solar panels.

Cajunin KY- Thank you for writing in. I hope you are doing better. Thank you for the heads up about Niki's picture in Hobby Farms. They never notified me so I didn't know they used it.

If anyone is interested I am posting a new story about our Flip House in Florida. It is our winter project. I know this is the wrong forum so I will post it in the correct one.

Lisa,
You are very welcome. How are Nikki and 65 doing? Hope they are keeping warm.

A flip house? You and Mike don't let any grass grow under your feet, huh? But that must mean you are away from home. Did you have to do much winterizing before you left?
