I have a bookcase full of gardening books, what each sorely lacks is a description of what is going on below ground. Oh yes, they mention if the plant is rhizome or bulb, or maybe a longer tap root than normal. I am looking for a reference that includes picture of the root system of the plant along with the plant/flower.

As an example, Prairie Moon nursery has pictures of their bare root plants and is typical of the information I am looking for: http://www.prairiemoon.com/store/template/product_detail.php...

It would be extremely helpful to me when transplanting or adding plants to an established garden. At the moment I go to PM website, see if they have a picture of the plant I am transplanting and go from there. Helpful if I had something in the garden with me. I have e-mailed Prairie Moon asking if they would consider a pdf file of their pictures for download or a book for $. No response yet. So just curious if anyone here knows of such a reference book?

Thanks
