I bought a ponytail palm at the nursery a couple days ago. Didn't know much about it. Now that I've read up on it, I see that all photos of one show the root bulb above the soil. When I bought mine it was below the soil line. I dug in a little and it's just below the soil line.

Should I repot to place it above the line? Or should it be below the line on a young plant. By young, I mean the height of the leaves is maybe about 8 or 9 inches before the curve back towards the ground.

thx!

The "Pony Tail Palm" is not really a palm, it's actually in the agave family of plants. I've never seen one with the bulb planted below soil level, I would be afraid it would get too much moisture and end up rotting. You could repot with the bulbous part above the soil, but either way, this plant prefers to be kept on the dry side.
