| I voted pecan praline. I order it whenever it's available. I always buy vanilla for the house because it goes well with practically anything for dessert or a bowl before going to bed. For a pure taste sensation it doesn't get any better than pecan praline for me. |

| I do love them all, but my favorite of all time is one I made for the kids. Watermelon Ice Cream. Before you all weird out on me, all it takes is a quart of lime sherbert softened and spread in a round stainless bowl and put in the freezer. Then take a quart of softened raspberry sherbert, mix about 1/2 cup (or more to taste) of chocolate chips, spread that mixture inside the lime sherbert "rind", and pop it back in the freezer. When you slice the resulting half a sphere of sherbert, it looks just like a watermelon and is very tasty. |

| I have a wicked (life threatening) nut allergy, so it eliminates a lot of flavors. My 2 favorites were Triple Fudge Brownie and Black Jack Cherry from Schwan's and they stopped making both of them (gasp!). But I do get my ice cream delivered to my house, so I guess that makes up for it LOL. They do have another called Dulce de Leche (it's caramel flavored with a caramel swirl) that is pretty darn good. |

| I once had an ice cream from Blue Bell in Texas. Peach amaretto pecan. There has never been and will never be an ice cream flavor to beat that one, in my books. I looked for it for a couple of years after that first tub, even went to the factory, but they told me it's a specialty flavor that they only make intermittently. So I'll just have to get some peaches, some amaretto, some pecans, some cream, some sugar, and an ice-cream maker. YUM! |

The original Tucker's Ice Cream in Alameda, the town I grew up in, used to make all their own ice cream, and they made their Rocky Road with walnuts. They even had sherbets that I can't find anywhere, one of them being Pink Champagne Sherbet. That was so good and refreshing on a hot summer day! Strawberry ice cream runs a close second!

But my hubby likes it and he's also the one who found that yummy blackberry wine. He's definitely a bad influence!
Funny, my mom and my brother just loved ice cream. My mom would walk a mile and a half (she didn't drive) to get to the ice cream place to get her "fix." She once replaced her refrigerator because it didn't keep the ice cream cold enough! |

Blue Bell's Mocha Almond Fudge is what I usually prefer when I can find it
followed by Haagen Das Coffee (the best coffee ice cream, though I often add hot fudge)
and then Baskin Robbins Jamocha Almond Fudge (the one that introduced me to Coffee Ice Cream as a kid)
And believe it or not, I don't drink coffee - don't really like it without lots of milk and sugar. :-)

Truth is I love it but I'm deathly allergic to milk products including Kraft singles, ice cream, whipped cream, milk, raw cheeses, riccota etc. Ages cheeses are fine Thank God!
I use soy milk, yogurt and stay away from those others... I crave ice cream but I light up like a renegade nuclear plant if I ingest it. Ugly. |

| Ben and Jerry's 'Cherry Garcia' is my very favorite. I even like the frozen yogurt version they make almost as much as the 'loaded' stuff. But it's ALL good if it's ice cream. And I agree about Blue Bell. Purity may be a 'southern' brand too, but it's good. Someone wrote about an Amaretto Pecan above...I seem to remember that one too. I agree - we'll just have to go out and get those ingredients and make our own!! |

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6690249
marie, I used to enjoy that up in Michigan but the south doesn't get it :(
----I voted don't care for ice cream. I am picky when it comes to desserts. I figure it's seriously got to be out of this world for me to risk carrying it around with me the rest of my life LOL and most just don't make it to that category. I like lots of chunks of chocolates, fudges, caramels, candied nuts in mine. I've had homemade ice cream done by hand and also cranked in a machine, I've yet to taste one that's good.
----Brand matters. Blue Bunny is really just so-so unless you get their "premium" top of the line brand and that's pretty good, as well as BB. HEB even has a good brand! I like their birthday cake one.
But take it or leave it, I generally have the will power to refuse.

Best Ice Cream I've ever had was @ 20 years ago at a place called G.D. Ritzi's. There were a couple of these diner type places in Florida (and maybe elsewhere in the U.S.?) They served burgers and hot dogs and regular food, but the Ice Cream was the Best! The Ritzi's here locally closed and we were so disappointed! There was still one on the west coast of Fla and whenever we went over that way for vacation, we would get off the interstate thirty miles from where we actually were staying, just to stop in for ice cream ... and always stopped on our way home from vacation too! One year we were heading to the Sarasota area and got off the interstate to make our usual stop ... so disappointing to find it was no longer our favorite Ice Cream place ... another business was in the building! :(
It was the yummiest Mint Chocolate Chunk and the very best Peanut Butter Cup ice cream we ever tasted! Oh, how we miss G.D. Ritzi's! |

They have this brand/label "Magnolia" you can easily find in Asian stores.
Sometimes they have purple yam too. Or a combination of mango and purple yam. Man - it's the best.
If you ever had Philippine mango (fresh and ripe) they're the best mangoes in the world. Preferred actually by European chiefs for their sweetness.
Actually, the brand itself, Magnolia - won top honors in a European competition. |

They mixed the blueberries into the ice cream on the spot for you and it was the best freshest tasting ice cream I'd ever had to date... and I put away a LOT of ice cream! They always have about 20 or more flavors that they've made, but have a few flavors of the day that they do for you upon your order. If you ever get to St. Louis in the summer, be sure to stop by. You won't be disappointed... unless you go on a very hot afternoon and have to wait in the mile long line to be served! Get there at opening! |
