Thanks Lee Ann for a great article. What about mulch, will that prevent last year's annuals from popping through? I've only just got around to digging in one bed where I had lots of annuals (cleome, petunia, nicotiana) last year but don't see any coming back.
Also, I had quite a few perennial (I thought!) black eyed susans in my beds last year. I replaced the old mulch last fall (oooh maybe I also removed the seeds!) & this year I have none, not even the parents. I live in zone 6a.
