Hello. I'm a fairly new gardener with a garden full of heavy Tennessee clay. My husband and I have been amending the soil slowly with compost from our bin and purchased soil from the garden store.
A wonderful and very generous friend of mind brought me a bunch of iris roots to add to my garden. She also brought a huge bag of flowers she could not name. She says they grow tall with large purple spire-like blossoms which bloom in the fall (remember, we have fall right up until November, here). Does anyone have any idea what they might be??
Based on the large number she brought, I fear they may be an invasive weed or something I don't want to introduce to my still struggling flower garden. I would appreciate any light anyone can shed on this mystery flower. The stalks she gave me are a couple of feet tall. Roots are very small.
