I saw a chair in a magazine in the checkout stand at the grocery (aren't those actually libraries for the busy?) and saw a chair done in succulents. I have also seen the posts here on the prickly sofa by our own Datura12.

I found this chair in the trash and brought it home. My DH laughed as after 7 years he is becoming quite used to this behavior. It sat idle for a year utnil I saw the picture there in the grocery stand.

Here is the chair in the beginning.

DH cut the base of the bottom out and welded it to the back where there was woven material. This was to support any climbers I may plant. He then created a "basket" of galvanized 1" square wire about 6" deep. I lined the bottom with garden cloth to hold the dirt in the basket. I lined the sides with moss on the outside and plastic the next layer in. Filled with potting soil and sand and planted away.

This is the picture of the chair with its base.

and the final project in it final place. I didn't plant too thick to allow for growth of the babies. all the plants were traded or given to me. so entire cost of project was the cost of the potting mix.

Beautiful chair and love how you made the basket. Gives me an idea how to do a couple of chairs I have, waiting for me to clean them up. Great job in posting pictures as you finished up each part of project. I'd be so happy to find such a pretty chair.

thanks again, yes, it will stay out all year. All the plants I chose are hardy here. The smaller ones may die back, but should sprout out again in spring.
