We grow a lot of Lupins as mentioned in your article, they self seed all over the place.
However I normally put a paper bag over the top of the seed heads when they are ripe, cut the stem and turn it upside down.
Then by hanging the bag tied around the stem, I hang it in my shed upside down.
As it dries the seed falls into the paper bag, therefore I always have a viable seed stock to fill in gaps and for family and friends.
I enclose a photo I took at the Chelsea Flower Show of the Lupins stand, they won a Chelsea Gold for this, and I am not surprised!
Regards a now sunny England.
Neil.
Wow!! That is one lovely group of lupines!
I always let them seed wherever they want as well. I've noticed that they have a short life span though...maybe 3 or 4 years tops. But, there are always seedlings ready to take their place.
