I'm a newbie to this site as well as to mosaics, but I can't wait to get started!
What is a good project for a beginner to start with? If I find a picture I want to mosaic how do I transfer the image?
What are some beginner tips?

I have been doing mosaics since looking at an article in Better Homes and Gardens, I started out doing terricotta flower pots, than I went to picture frames, and than to anything that will stand up to the weight of the ceramic or glass you decide to use. I order my supplies from E-bay, a glass cutter and a ceramic tile cutter are 2 different tools you can start out with, glass isn't as thick as tile, so the need for 2 different cutters is required, you can get free stencils off the internet, and free advice, buy going to " ask.com" and type in how do i do mosaic art, or any other question you have, all you have to do is ask, it's the best site you can use for information you want or questions you need an answer to. I love it, and I learned this way, and now have been doing mosaics for approx. 4 years. A wonderful hobby, and if you go to e-bay, and type in mosaic supplys, you'll find everything you need to get your craft going. I'll post a few pictures here for you to see what I've done, and when you grout, go to your HD and buy a small box of white grout and than depending on what color you want your grout to be, go buy some ' ridd clothing dye" and color your water before mixing your water and grout together, it works and your colored grouts cost more, and you may not ever use all you buy. I like to use different colored grout depending on the colors I use in my art work. Hope this has helped some, and please, post your first finished project!!

also, I wanted to tell you, any thing you can break, carefully, by placing a pillowcase or towel over, use dishes, bottles, or take ceramic tiles, and do the same, smash them to pieces, and use them to make your first design on something , wood, glass to glass, something that cab hold up to the weight of course, and use weld bond as your glue, bought from a craft store or from e-bay, where i find it to be much cheaper, it goes on white but dries clear, and is great for use on mosaics, I found this out from the pros who put their blogs up on the internet and show craft their work, some of which is beautiful! I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I like doing this craft so hey...When I started out I tried it first before putting 2 much money into the craft! I even used a brown beer bottle, I broke it into pieces, and glued it to a terracotta flower pot and it turned out beautiful, I'll see if I can find the picture and post it here. In the mean time hears a table top I'm currently working on!!
