I'm new to plants, flowers, gardening, and I wanted to know if this is a plant or Weed? And what it is?

If they send up showy flowers on a bloom spike later on, they're cannas. I don't know what else they could be.

They are Canna. If they are red at the base the bloom will be red. If they are green at the base they will be yellow. Canna are pretty but can turn in to a real pest. Hard to get rid of if they get out of hand.

Tink, this looks like it could be a hosta. They are very hardy but die out in winter to come back even bigger the next year. A great border plant. If it gets a long purple bloom out the middle in mid summer you will know that is what you have. They can get up to about a foot high and round after a couple of years in ground. They like partial shade. Now if this plant gets 5 ft high and blooms bright blooms yes you definately have a canna, either way you have a nice plant for the yard.

Tink, here is link that may help you

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/finder/index.php?sname=Cann...

Flowers, Hostas tend to be more clump forming with multiple stalks. Cannas tend to send up individual stalks as in the picture.
