Thanks for your very informative atricle. I have only recently begun to be aware of many of our different bees. I made a mason bee nest trap this Spring and was thinking I'd missed the boat on bees this year, but just yesterday I saw the first mud plug. I had heard a fierce buzzing inside the nest trap last week. How exciting! Thanks again.

I'm still figuring out how to post photos. I'll get my wife to help with that. In the meantime I was disappointed to find a wasp using the nest box. After more reading I believe the mud plug I have was left by a wasp based on the fact that it is smooth unlike the rough ones I read that mason bees leave. I'm not really bothered by the wasp but I really wanted to encourage the mason bees. Thanks again

Oh, that is too bad. I realize the wasps have to live somewhere too, but I understand your excitement when you thought you had mason bees moving in.
