I do my projects quick so I dont forget most times I see things and know thate I will do with it and only bring home whate I can use for each project.

| I've had packrat syndrome for many years and when I should be getting rid of things I find myself adding more to it. I too put things away for a while then don't remember what I was going to do with them. I don't know if I got that from DH or he got it from me, but we both have the same disease.
Sammut it really does look like your new stand was made for that spot. Usually when I see something someone wants to get rid of it is in bad shape. Found an old white metal shelf that was broken so DH fixed the one metal rung and took off the bottom part and it sits in the garage. Our ideas aren't put to use right away and then we find something else we like. Continuing circle we are in. |

There is a carpet store right by the thrift store I go to on Mondays and they have some small tiles and I always wanted to go and ask them if they ever threw any out, but DH said not too. I get a lot of tiles from these places for my sister she loves mosaics, only if they are broken, but I am only going to break them further anyway so I am more than happy with that lol. I am going to have to give mosaics a go one day my self, Sammut has inspired me to do lots of stuff. When I retire sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Elaine, that is a beautiful piece. I love the rose tiles. I found some large tiles at the thrift store throughout the year and they are intended to be used in a mosaic. Have a large trivet that I bought to set some plants on, well the pressed wood section they were glued on is falling apart so I'll just take off all the tiles, clean them up and put them aside for a project. I already have some grout so I'm all ready except for time. |

| That is a very pretty plate, Elaine. If only some of the clerks knew what we were going to do with the things we buy. I was shocked when I saw one of the girls in the thrift store taking some dishes off the shelves and throwing them in a trash can. I wanted to stop her and take them home. She said they weren't any good, how little she knows what nice things could be made. Well, not every one wants to be bothered. |

| This thrift store is run by all Mexican people and most don't speak English. That is so frustrating at times. The cashiers of course have to speak English, but then they don't have anything to do with the merchandise except ring up the sales. Sometimes when we go around in back they are throwing out things and if I see something that interests me I ask them for it. Need to be at the right place at the right time. DH visits with a man he meet there months ago while his wife and I shop and see what we can find. She isn't into gardening or turning trash into treasure, but likes some of the things I do. That gives you a boost for the day.

| I just don't have any of that energy and my carpets need cleaning SOOOO bad.
After my trip to the thrift store this AM, nothing much to talk about there, I told DH to take my bag to car and I was going into the carpet store. Well, I asked about tiles, and what a job I had trying to explain what I wanted. Didn't help I was talking to a Chinese man who didn't speak or understand English very well. I asked about tiles, oh no he said I didn't want broken tiles. How does he know what I want. I showed him the samples of small tiles he had and asked if he ever got rid of them. Ah, got through to him, said to save them for me, that I was here every Monday morning. Did I get through to him, I can't really say. As I was leaving his store I said, "Now, don't forget". We will see what happens. |

I'm sure he thought I wanted him to give him all his samples, I would have taken them too. Just didn't want him throwing tiles in the trash on days I don't go there.

He should throw out all samples and start over, I will be there to catch all of them. I've seen some mosaics people have done, in the thrift store, and some of them I would have thrown out and started over. Maybe a different man will be in the shop that I can understand better. I just don't want him to throw away anything I can use on days I'm not there. Or, if I was a little closer to the store I would stop in every day. Will let you know!! |

Didn't find anything interesting at the thrift store either. Just must not be my day. I read a lot so I usually find a book or two. Guess I better concentrate on my garden sign and get that up.
I see one of my neighbors have a yard sale sign up for this weekend. No one does crafts there, but might be something good. This is same neighbor who gave me her swing set. I see a great stand in her back yard and hope she puts that out to sell.

I dont have to move any thing inside for winter I use my yard every day about 3 times a week I have a cook out in the mornings just love to sit and watch the fire on a cold morning most mornings is about 10C thate is about 45 F. in my yard and about 18 C thates about 67 F. now we are close to spring so moving near 20C in the day .
The last few days I have been painting the inside of my studio and moving things around I have alot stored in there so not a lot of space , still a little stiff and sore . Your climate must be pretty much like ours. We don't get any rain during the summer, so I enjoy it when it rains during the winter months.. | Beautiful sunset! Sun is out and hope it doesn't get too hot. I do manage to get a few things accomplished while it is still cool.
When we remodeled the half wall between living room and dining area I kept the old newel for use in the yard and one of the new newels we cut in half so it looks like half of it is in the wall. The other half I am going to paint and put on the post of my garden patio under the sign I am going to put up. DH is working along with me on this much to my surprise. When I ask him what he thinks he usually says, "It's your garden", like he doesn't want to get involved. |

| That elephant is a beauty, Elaine. I would keep it inside too. Your son picks up some nice presents for you.
I put my garden letters on my sign, and I did get it a little crooked, but it will have to do Want to add some flowers or something on it yet. I painted the half newel, needs another coat, but doesn't look good solid green so have to do something about that too. DH is out mowing the front lawn so don't want to bother him, men can get so grumpy and he is bad at that if I disturb him in the middle of a job.
Now, I understand you have to keep moving or freeze at our ages. Got to do a lot more moving then and less time computing.

A newel is usually the round post at the bottom of some staircases. Let me see if I can find the picture of my half wall with a newel at one end and a half newel at the other end. I was still in the process of finishing this up. When I ever get around to painting the walls this will be painted same color. I had hired a handyman that does some nice work to help me out with this.

| Hi Pegi ,
I was on the right track I call the wood posts spindels , in the old houses ceilings where about 10 to 12 ft high and some times a feature wall and about 2 or 3 ft on top open and the wood posts or slats with cut out pattens along some had no wall the wood posts or slats only at the top .like a frame. It was a early style built about 1890's the houses were mainly built of wood and painted white the houses were built high on pillars about 6ft of the ground Queensland is a hot state so there was air flowing under the house to help keep the house cool. Bet your confused now

| I've never seen a house built like that, Elaine. It could remind me of huts that were built by native Hawaiians. Neat way of air conditioning the house, but so many stairs to climb. This half wall had wooden vertical slats which I didn't like because it may the rooms look so dark. There was one newel/spindle on the end which I have out in back looking for the right place in the yard. This was an addition put in this house by a previous owner and not down very well so DH anchored the top to the ceiling to make it more sturdy.
Still working on my garden sign, just wish I could picture it done in my mind. It is supposed to be nice and cool tomorrow so that means I better get out and work. |

| hi Janice ,
Our summer is very hot the worst can be Dec Jan. but mostly we only have afew weeks where it is over 40 C thate is about 105 F. when the temp. goes over 40C it is bush fire danger .
Things look so green because I dont grow flowers mostly only grow green plants things thate are easy to look after and I live on a small block so its easy to care for . But often in summer I have to but up shade cloth to protect against the sun burning every thing.
There is a new baby elephant here in our zoo so my interest had grown from watching the footage
of its day to day life thate was the reason my son bought mine.
This morning when we were shopping he saw the smaller one so thate is why I call it baby elephant .

Good news, stress test and EKG on hubby today shows he has a strong heart. Doctor didn't want to have to do a procedure for cleaning out blocked arteries because he only has one kidney, but it nothting that has to be done. Shortness of breath happens when heart beat goes faster so increasing a medication the primary doctor had proscribed. Doesn't have to go back for a couple months.

It hadn't been used for years and didn't think it was any good, but I was wrong. Now I can finish it up so it can be put up by the garden.
Didn't go in to see the Chinese man today, but found some small tiles in a package at the thrift store and will add that to some larger tiles I have until I get enough gathered up. Also saw this large heavy board by the dumpster that must have been used for setting things on that I can use to help block off an area I don't want my dogs to go in to. It is such a heavy piece and we had to anchor it to top of car. Don't know if it will hold up during the rainy season, but time will tell. |

Putting several coats, it is white and when dries it is clear, over to help protect it. Since it is going to be out in the weather I will put a couple coats on it then spray it with a clear sealent. Elaine maybe Shell's idea of putting mosiacs on your bench would work out good. A lot of the gals have done mosiacs on table tops.
My office is not only overcrowded but full of junk. I have to go through a lot of things and get them put together so I can find them. My little Molly is 9 weeks now she is growing so fast. I think she is very gratefull I found her when she was 2 weeks old before starvation made her go to sleep for ever :-(
Now lets see I am 47 now I will be 48 in a couple of months, I can retire and collect my super at 60, so that is 12.3 years or 637 weeks or 6377 days away, that does not sound to bad if you say it fast lol. I should be grateful that I even have a job, especially when so many of my friends have lost thiers in the last couple of months and if they don't find something soon they will lose thier homes. So next time I complain just kick me in the butt lol. ( but then again I have worked everyday since I was 14 and sometimes I am just 'over it' lol. the most time I have ever had off is 2 weeks for each baby, I had 4.) quick start butt kicking I'm complaining again lol.

Well actually the machine and everything is there but I am taking that off, any ideas on that? But I want to make a potting bench or pretty plant table out of it and I think this is finally going to become my mosaic which I have been waiting to do. I have a bucket of mastic, just need the old plates or rose tiles. This is the other treasure I made out of the last sewing base.

| I wanna give this a try, but I'm affraid I will be addicted. lol.. I have a huge pile of stain glass and an old window, I think I am going to start there. ALso I have been saving any plates that get a chip on them.. I love the colors black and red so I would like to make something out of them.. I bought one of those wheel cutters the other day but can't seem to get that thing to work.. lol.. Not sure what I am doing wrong..

| Elaine, you have been busy again with the mosaics, sure are nice. You do such a great job. Haven't been doing much, these trips to clinic with hubby for lab work, etc. sure can mess up a good day. LOL
Have been putting aside some tiles I found for when I start my project. Those rose tiles are really pretty, I just have to get to other thrift stores to look around.
Last night ambulance took my neighbor to the hospital, so I'm concerned about him. His wife has been taking care of him for 9 years with battling alzheimer and parkington desease. It is so hard but you never hear her complain. Just had to add this to my post as this is what is on my mind this morning. |

| No, I haven't heard any news about my neighbor. I know she went in the ambulance to the hospital with him, but has been quiet since. She has been such a devoted caretaker and I know it is hard on her.
Have to keep my ears and eyes open for that movie.
Won't get much done since our weather is still so hot. I'm so looking forward to much cooler months, whenever that will happen. |

| Elaine,
Your mosaics are so beautiful. I gotta find some rose tile. I will post a pic of what I found today and then the other sewing base. I sold the top to the antique dealer for $10.00, so now I only have $20 in it, but then bought this. Not sure what it is used for , but looked like a good garden cart. It folds flat too! Here is a link to Rate My Space if you want to look around.

| I really like you sewing machine stand, like the iron stands by it too.
I had a very similar cart to one you pictured. It is a grocery shopping cart. I used to walk to the grocery store, many years ago, and fill it full of groceries and pull it home. In my younger days I did a lot of walking. LOL My hubby has one in the garage he uses for his fishing stuff. They come in handy for so many things. Very good deal on the cart too. |

Thanks for sharing.
Make sure you post thatt table when finished. |

| Here is my Garden/patio sign finally put up. I haven't decided what should be on the bottom of the newel. Finally getting is altogether. DH had put up some spinners hoping to scare off birds, but I kind of think the Japenese beetle is causing damage to leaves, etc. |

| My tomato plants are drying up now, not the lush green I had a couple months ago.
Gathering up plates now of different sizes to make some "flowers" for my garden. |
