So far I only have Daniel Weeks and Clown Suit for the hedychiums. Dr. Moy and a few others have flowers formed but are not open yet. I do have a bloom on this new Curcuma...C. "Emerald". This photo is misleading, its a LARGE bloom (The whole plant is LARGE)

Hedychiums come in the basic white, yellows, peach/orange, and pinks. It'd be cool if someone could hybridize a purple one. There isn't a 'true' red, although there are some really deep orange-red ones.

I bought mine from Tom Wood at one of our local botanical garden sales a few years ago, same time I bought Clown Suit. I really like them both. Tom Wood has an openhouse some years, its pretty sproradic, where he sells his plants, and he shows up at the Kanapaha sales on an irregular basis. I wish he'd show up every time, I'd like to keep collecting his stuff.

I would love to come and see your place again, I am sure you have done so much with it since I saw it last. Maybe around Labor Day, we can get together and yes, I'd love to go to Hattiesburg. Ok all you MS people, lol Don't leave me out. I have a yard full of plants that need to be divided! I just gave away tons of ginger and have plenty more to share. Donna, all that you gave me last year is doing well. Want some back? ;o) (just in case you don't remember me, I'm Daisy's Friend that came with the U-Haul!) Barbara, I still have more to give you. There are tons of things that I am just coming across. Janet and Kay are welcome to come as well. How about we do an old fasion plant swap? I have been spending time in the yard the last few days so some beds look really bare compared to the last time you were here Barbara. I send off about 20 bags of plants but not to worry it wasn't the best stuff, more of the common items. Anyway, Donna I still owe you so don't go buying gingers or ee's without checking with me. I have tons even The Curucma emerald pagoda and Curcuma h. Emerald Chocozebra. Barbara if you don't have these in the pots of different gingers I gave you let me know and I will get some together for you. Oh and Gothqueen, if you ever want to trade d-mail me and I will be happy to send you a full list of what gingers I have.

Looks like you all have amassed quite a collection of gingers since we last talked. My gingers have dwindled. I used to go to all the botanical gardens sales in New Orleans and Mobile, but haven't been to either since the storm. Really the only gingers I have replaced came from either Donna, Kay, and maybe Barbara when we had that get-together at Donna's house for gumbo. Anything I do have I'd love to share with any of you.

Janet how I wish I could. I might be able to make it to Kay's with a pain pill but then I would have to stay inside. I can't be out in the sun or I pass out. Ask Kay and Delisa!!! I was sick as a dog and slept all day last Oct when Delisa and I went. 5 minutes and I almost hit the ground. 5 of my meds I can't be in direct sunlight I found out. I scared them half to death and myself as well

I used to grow about 40 different heliconia, but they are real space hogs in the GH. I always found it much easier to grow them from rhizome starts. I sold (when I had my nursery business) and traded away all of them except for Rostrata, Episcopalis and hirsuta, schiediana, Splash, Pedro Ortiz and latispatha and got 2 variegated ones later (El Tigre and bihai lemai). I have photos of a lot of mine when they were at their glorious best, LOL.

Those are all very beautiful. I can't wait til mine bloom. The white butterfly is the only one of mine that I have had long enough to see the flowers.

Donna,
I am so sorry to hear you are on so many meds that keep you inside. If you ever feel up to it, just let me know. Of course, we wouldn't want you to overdo it.
Take care of yourself.
Here is the pic from your house not long after you moved in.

girl you should see it now. They cut all the pines in front opening it all up so you can see the pond from the front porch. Have it all remodeled and decorated now except for outside. Either need to paint or put vinyal siding. Really want to put vinyal siding. Got your call. Yes getting packages daily. Doing School Clothes, Halloween, Christmas and Birthday shopping for the boys.

It sounds wonderful. I am sure you are so happy with the results. I am working nights 8pm to 430 am, well mostly, sometimes go in early or stay late, but that is my schedule.
Call me on my cell anytime, and you can leave a message. I don't keep it where it will wake me up. Let me know if you didn't get the number on caller id. I still have your numbers programmed in my phone.
