Ok here we are!!

To get your free seeds

Be Sure to put your damil name and a note of wants in your envie, along with return name and address
Address exchange is here http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/
You have to add your information to be able to access everyone else's.

We came from here!! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1002208/

Please feel free to Dmail me with questions
Many of us "oldies" and some Newbies would like to share our seeds with those of you new to Dave's. By new, we mean you joined in the last 8 months(or so) and are a paying member.
Send me a SASBE (Self addressed, stamped bubble envelope) and we'll send you 10 packets of seeds. (Usually more, depends on our stash) That's all there is to it. Let us know you are sending your envy. Just Dmail me with sent envie today in the subject. You will get a good variety of good seeds.

If you can, stick a note in your envy and tell me they types of things you like. Veggies and Flowers, some seeds you are looking for, stuff like that. It will help me fill your envy. I can't always get just what you ask for, but will try.

Postage keeps going up so now we need five usually,

Send 5 stamps and an address label with your name on it.
4 of the stamps will go back on your return envy, the extra will go into the "pot" I don't use it for personal use, but it helps when some mail comes with postage due and when the "oldies" send boxes of seeds sometimes there is postage due.
Best thing to do is just send me an empty bubble envy with your label and stamps inside. I can use that same envy to send your seeds back. Saves that envy!!
Also, if you will scotch tape the envy to send to me, I can use the self adhesive and won't destroy your envy pulling them open when I get them. That stuff is "tuff" and I end up with mangled envy's going back to you

Please make sure you put enough stamps on your envelope you send to me. An empty bubble envy is at least 84 cents, so two stamps. If you are sending seeds, it's more of course.

PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR D MAIL NAME WITH YOUR ENVY.

I am in the address exchange, so you know where to send the envy. If you can't find it, just d mail and I'll shoot it right to you. At the top of your home page, you'll see the link "EXTRA'S" ,Go into that link, scroll down and you'll see the address exchange this goes to the exchange http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/ you have to add yourself to the exchange then you can get my address.

Oldies! lol If you would like to donate seeds, it would be great.!! I know how much I loved it when I was new and someone sent me seeds to get me started. Now I want to pay it forward and maybe you would too.

For those of you who would like to help the newbies, but just don't have a lot of seed, if you would like to trade for seeds, that is great as well. Send seeds for the newbies and I will send you the same amount back. Put a note in with your DG name and let me know what you are looking for also.
Happy Gardening Everyone,
Robin

Hi Flower, favorite of the week!

Those are Nicotianas sanderae 'Fragrant Cloud'. They are so easy and sweet smelling. I saw the pic in a mag. and hunted the seeds. They keep getting bigger and bigger. I've had to stake a few.

Wow Mindy I think that puts you at the head of the sibling roundup. :) Did you grow up in KY?

Yes I second the motion that Arejay will be favorite of the week next week.

Mamajack you got that right about the grandparents favorite being the oldest. Their influence was probably stronger with the first than the rest. We probably wore them out before the younger ones could get there. :)

Morning Everyone!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I have to work today, otherwise, I wouldn't be up at this Gawd awful hour on a Saturday morning, but we like to do this thing in my house called 'eating' so I guess I can't complain, working allows us to partake of our favorite pastime :)

We got a little rain yesterday, I'm not sure how much because my neighbor hasn't given me the official rain gauge reading yet. I'm sure we got enough to help my plants make it through the hot day though!

On a side note... I have Asclepias Curassavica (Milkweed/Butterfly Weed) seeds now if any of you might be interested. I welcome any and all 'Black' flower seeds ...ROTFL.. but you guys already knew that.

Anyways, hope everyone has a great day. Stay outta the heat and enjoy your weekend!

Good Morning ,
What do you have growing in your cups? We have about 20 deer that we feed throughout the winter..I know...some say do some say don't...I do. Anyway , they don't seem to bother anything in the summer. Maybe once in a great while they nibble on a juniper bush . I often wonder if it is all the garlic I have planted which I planted way to much of I might add, if it keeps away in the summer?

Hi Linda,
And the rest of you don't want to suggest there are favorites well except for Flower it is her week right? The scramble is tonight and it is couples night!! One person wins both right? So you have your work cut out for you. I will try to behave and not misspell or have the wrong name or any of those silly little things happening...
But I want to tell you all a story...
Ready?Ok here you go...I think I will copy and paste here...
Good morning Sherri,
I have to tell you this story. I have been putting a package together for another woman on the newbie thread for a week or so now. Writing back and forth while writing back and forth with you. I posted the other day that all packages seeds plants and whatever else was out in the mail whew I made it...Well as I got my wonderful package delivered from you. I kept thinking oh I hope she likes what I sent her. Thinking all the time I was thinking of you. Well guess what Sherrie?? Sometimers alltimers and everytimers(in honer of Kt1)had taken over. It wasn't your package, it was the other woman's on the newbie thread. I apologize and I will put yours together and mail on Monday. I like to give the kids something to laugh about now and then I obviously don't have to work at that too hard it comes on its own often. I wondered and please tell me honestly do you mind if I tell this story on the newbie thread?
Now to complete I was writing this whole thing to Sherri because she sent me the most beautiful rose bush yes the whole bushand not just any old rose bush it is Chihuly Floribunda.."Named after the artist" So imagine how dumb I am feeling right now while I am looking at this beautiful rose bush wondering if her package is there yet and if she will like it and poof alltimers..I have not sent it !!! Help!!!! I have made the last slip down the steep hill of old age.
I could be telling a small joke when I told you that i wont pull any dumb tricks when I post the scramble tonight and if I do. It obviously is not my fault. Whew ok Im done. Have fun with that one Ktwins.

A Chihuly Rose !!!!! I was never so surprised in all my life !!!!! It was so great of her to send it.

Yes Robin I'm here again now that I've recovered from my laughing fit. Ladies the other woman she mentioned in her story above is none other than me. To beat it all she replied to a d mail from me and used Sherri's name. I can't wait for that package to get here no telling what she put in it during her ummmmm vacation from the present.
I'm working on the scramble now so be quiet I need to concentrate through the giggles.

Is it true that cue_chik who is not qualified to win (because she's already won this month) and who said she wouldn't know it if it unscrambled itself in front of her ( I know what she said because it really truly applied to me. And I thought it was a good line.) has already figured this out? LOL Young brain. :)

You know this thread is addicting. My dishwasher is out waiting for a new motor. So I've been washing the dishes and putting them in the DW racks to dry. But tonight with all the excitement I just filled up the dishwasher with dirty dishes. I think I was worried about the debt. :)

And another thing... Mindy I was thinking about my conversation with Arejay about this plant trade and there didn't seem to be any gaps in the flow of dmails. Do you think she just repeated herself to both of us thinking "I thought I already told her that?".

I AM working on the words. I've been through lots of pinky purple flowers with no results. I'll keep trying. Maybe the mojito would loosen up the ol brain? LOL

Well. Let me see...I am thinking that ...12 minutes, I was gone for 12 minutes and all heck broke loose...Who was supposed to be watching this bunch?Sherri have you been sharing your mint with the whole bunch? They all sound a little off to me.
I have now three cups of coffee in that is how long it took me to find the begging and the end of this. Three cups.
First I have to say Flower you behave, you are the favorite this week I know but that doesnt make it ok to be sassy(hugs) just teasin Flower is the best!! The words are iris sibirica and nepeta faassenii. There is no N in that.
Debi did post at 9.38pmthe thing there is that is when I think Sherri started sharing the mint drinks, I am suspicious of this as I know Sherri is a great sharer!! .. Debbi your post came to my dmail and That must be when you called for backup from Jangirl at 9:52 although I see that She must have been conspiring with KT14 as the post was edited at 10:59 ,Then I see Jangirl and Debi saddled up together and got the job done...good team work girls..see how it is when you play and share nicely?
Now for you Ktwin1 Let me see that wrist, I am pretty sure I have told you to stay in the house and out of the gardens down there in tropical winds those were not Skeeters the are flying sharks. I know you love black but you can not play with the sharks.

Did I get it all? Has my mind returned to my keyboard? I will know for sure as soon as Polly gets up and verifies that I am on the right thread as Seray has suggested we are on the old age thread and I am not sure who is right.

1. RISBIRICSIAI 12 letters ABCiiiiiRRSS this one is right

2. ISENATFAEPISENA 15 letters this one is right
AAAEEEFINNPSST

iris sibirica and nepeta faassenii whaqt Polly sent me to scramble

Cat mint
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/37051/

Iris
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/880/

I think we got other than maybe the X as I am to new to know if it belongs in the spelling or it is just seperating the two words
so see I cant be fooled everytime. I might have sometimers but maybe not alltimers ..Well yet anyway!!!!

Hello-all. I've been gone all day so hadn't checked in until now. Yes, I want the plants. I think I already stated that if someone would put down that mojito and read. I sent polly a d-mail with my info. Really everyone I do think they are beautiful! And they are my favorite colors. But blondie did figure it out and thought she had posted correctly and when it wasn't there in this forum, I answered so someone else wouldn't guess it before she could find the right place. I didn't know WHERE she had sent her answer. Then she d-mailed me to say she wanted to give them to me because she had not had good luck with them beforeand everything went crazy with all that funny drink stuff going on. Then I went to bed and left this morning untul just now got home to check in. NOW is everything OK? Can I have a mojito with the plants too? I think I really need one.

Last summer, my son in law was visiting while on his way to "camp" with his friends. He decided to mix up a batch of mohitos. Wanted to know where the nearest store was where he could buy some fresh mint. I asked him what kind do you want? I have chocolate, pineapple, spearmint, and peppermint. Didn't offer to share my catmint as I dry it for cat toys. He used the spearmint. Then he wanted a morter and pestle to bruise the leaves, what do I look like, a pharmacist? I gave him a breadboard and knife, and pointed him to the Vita-Mix. I know I drank one, but it must not have impressed me because I can't remember it. Probably should have used the chocolate mint.

Arejay- would love some. I have some herbs out there and don't have a clue what they are. I didn't plant them, they came in a tomatoe garden already growing when I got it. I know the great big tall thing blooming is dill. But there is a verigated thing, maybe sage? Smells awful. Doesn't smell like what I remember as sage from my childhood and a whole lot of others. Some are blooming and pretty leaves, I guess I'll have to take a picture and see if anyone can tell me what some are. I think one is basil, I think I've seen pictures of it somewhere. Others, I'm clueless. This is so funny since I've bought herb greenhouses and given to some of my family and friends for Christmas presents so they can start theirs early and picked out 8-10 packets of herbs for each little greenhouse and never planted any for myself. I do have a little patch of lavender growing. Pinapple mint and spearmint and cat nip.
Cue_chik, you can always plant in a pot and put the pot in the garden and mark the pot, and IF you move, take it with you.

mekos - looks like that varieagated (sp?) one might be a type of Sage. I also see a flowering Basil in there as well as what looks like flat leaf Parsley. You're right on the Dill. They are pretty when they flower and attract pollinators, good for me and my veggies - lol.

Once the Basil flowers (any herb for that matter) it loses some of it's potency as the oils in the leaves are reduced. If you pinch/cut them back a bit most herbs will continue to grow. With Dill, before it flowers, I cut large pieces, wash and dry well and plop it in the freezer in freezer bags to use later. Fresh herbs frozen will lose some in the texture department, but they are great to cook with and much cheaper than buying a little here and there to cook with. The only herb I don't like to freeze is Basil. It turns weird colors.

Good luck with your little herb garden!

I never grew herbs before.

How big of an area are they in? Most of my vegetable/herb gardens are in the square foot gardening method. For example, I have 2 basil/sq ft (6" apart). Most other herbs I have 1 per sq foot or 12" spacing. They can be crowded a bit and still be happy. The main thing is to pinch them back before they flower to extend their life. Not sure how hot your summers get, but here in Phoenix we get over 110 F most of the summer. Any little bit of shading my herbs have helps as a lot will bolt or go to seed in the heat (cilantro and parsley are good examples). I don't know how well they would transplant if you moved them. Mine are growing where they were sown. I have seen herb boxes and such at the Farmer's Market here and they were growing really close together.

Mekos your herbs look good! I put mine in an urn pot near the garden. It' easy to reach and I cram them in just like you would a container plant. I tried every other way and this works great for me. The urn is on the right side. So far everything but the dill has lasted since early spring. I have chocolate basil, thyme, oregano, sage, parsley (flat and curly).

Great idea Locakelly about freezing the dill. I'll try it for the fall batch. It's the one that goes the quickest.

They may be a little cramped. The herbs will probably be fine - they just won't grow as large competing for space. What kind of tomato is it? Sounds like an awfully small pot for the 'mater to be in - lol...

You could always try transplanting the herbs, but I think they'll be just fine where they're at...

locakelly, when I brought them home, I dug a hole in the garden and put in fresh miraclegrow potting soil and put the whole thing, out of the pot , in the ground, but didn't know so many was there till they started growing. The tomatoe is a plum tomatoe. The fruit doesnt get big, it's like a salad tomatoe. (grape tomatoe, kinda) I have other tomatoes that get large enough for sandwiches or making soup, but thought this one was cute for salads. Only noticed a couple different herbs when I planted it a couple weeks ago, but now there are several getting up there.

mekos - if they are in the ground they should be just fine. Some herbs like the parsley are perennial and will overwinter, depending on how cold it gets. Probably why so many crept up on you - lol. Just be sure to use them or at least pinch or snipthem back and you should have fresh herbs all summer long. The dill will bolt/go to seed and flower more quickly than the others. If you like dill, maybe freeze it like I suggested above.

I am new to Dg too. I wanted to let you know, some of the others here at Dave's would like to offer you 10 or more packets of free seeds. Just to say welcome and to "pay it forward" because so many of the DGer's helped them when they first joined.

Here is a link to the thread with instructions for you. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1007596/
Hope to hear from you, have seeds in the packets just waiting for new owners. Also, be sure to join in the fun on Saturdays at 6pm on the same thread we do a word scramble and give away at least one plant!!
See you soon,

Polly maybe...Im not sure if I am supposed to reward you all for doing something creative with your free time, or ignore bad behavior or punish each and everyone involved for not getting permission. The word has to be scrambled to the plant or the seed in your case and then you post the word and they guess...Have you changed the rules???? Rules, regulations following directions...Tell them please Al...Polly, Mama . Flower someone tell them they have to follow rules and directions if they are ever going to make a healthy contribution to the universe!!

No ...Joking...you go Mekos...your turn your up, whats the word we are unscrambling?? Maybe Ill get it and win. I can maybe unscramble better than I can scramble? Maybe???

Hi Polly!

Ithaca is about a two hour stretch from here, been there many times. We're about 60 miles south of Rochester, in the Finger Lakes region, still considered Upstate. Hornell is a small city (10,000 or so), but the area is definately country rural.

NO- we dont scramble the seed name. We tell what the gift is IF they unscramblethe word YOU pick. I'll put up the seed, YOU scramble a word and the winner gets the seed. BUT these rules would ONLY go for the mid-day scramble and once a month IF you guys want to do this. YOU tell me WHEN, I'll put up the seed for that scramble and the ones who would want the seeds would guess. They will know what they are getting but wouldn't know what the word you scramble is. GET IT? YOU GOT D_MAIL ANYWAY- AREJAY.

Once a week? You pick the night or day when it suits your fancy and call the scramble. Lets take a vote out there. 1- Who would want the name of the seeds scrambled and-2- who would want to know what they are guessing for then unscramble another word. VOTE everyone. Want to know what is up- or want to unscramble blindly?

Well, I'll leave it up to arejay, I just figured if we scrambeled my seed names everyone would know them, they are listed on my have list. What challenge would that be? So, if you know what it is you're getting, it might be more fun to hunt harder for the correct scramble to win it and like you said you can always pass it on in a trade. Or give to someone who may want it.

Just wanted to say, last night I laughed so hard I cried for the longest time. I rolled! That was so much fun and I'd like to see a surprise scramble once a week just for seeds and like I said- Arejay or whoever she picks will do the scrambled word for each week so she can participate also. Just a way to have fun and get new seeds, any won and not wanted, put in for some newbies free packages. That would help arejay with extra seeds. I'm all for meeting new members and having fun for the summer. NOW pick some good words to scramble, I got some good seeds here. This scramble will officially be the one for this week. The seeds are--- 5 RED Chinese Magnolia seed. Arejay is going to post the scrambled word shortly and who ever gets it, d-mail me with the address of where it will be sent. Have fun and good luck. AREJAY---back to you.

5 RED Chinese Magnolia seed...

Magnolia mine, old southern bloom,
once planted north, you come too soon.

Magnolia mine, each branch a chain
of diamond drops through ice or rain.

Magnolia mine, though you can't wait,
your swelling buds tempt a frozen fate.

Magnolia mine, your blossoms speak
of life restored, winter's defeat.

Magnolia mine, that I could show
a flower of faith like those you grow!

Mekos - I have a stevia plant growing in a pot. It has gone to seed -- can you use that kind of seed? Is there any other kind? The plant itself is tall and leggy. . .can I cut it back and mail it to you? Instructions, please!

Here is how to make a Mojito. Place 2 t. sugar, 6-8 mint leaves (peppermint) and a little club soda in a tall glass (highball). Stir (muddle) to dissolve sugar and release the mint flavor. Squeeze the juice of a lime which has been cut in half into the glass, then add
half of the lime into the glass. Add 2 oz. light rum (Cruzan, Appleton, or Mount Gay) and
stir again. Finish filling glass with club soda. Garnish with mint sprig. Serve over ice. This is similar to a Brazilian drink in which you mash the lime and lemon with a mortar and pestle, which is half the fun!

And what was this side room scramble for such a beautiful plant/seed. And who besides me is totally confused with the new rules. And I guess with the official Newbie drink who cares. Right!! She isnt the only one waiting on me for Stevia,,, If I could find a big pot of it I would buy it... no I didn't say that shhh cut that out twins putting words in my message...

Thanks duchess, I sure would love that, can I send you help with postage? I've looked for that plant a long time, finally gave up and now it's here. You are a doll. But with the drinks, I don't drink, not yet anyway. I may start after this forum. We were all just playing around last night, just bored and found some fun brewing. No rules changed, we just started a seed give away at random and decided to do it weekly, no particular day, it's Robin's choice on days to do it, we just gave it a dry run last night and it was too much fun to forget it. Sorry some didn't know, just spur of the moment. People should check in at all times to get goodies, you never know what is waiting around the witching hour. I just got stung you guys by a BIG bumble bee on my thigh. I need petting.

Hi Everyone boy you all sure are busy getting into mischief aren't you?

Hey Cue Chik you are the cause of me buying a calla lily which I don't even like calla lilys. It's all your fault too because you commented on your want list and I just had to go look at it again and darn if I didn't do a search for BLACK calla lily and found one on ebay (last one too) and won it. No clue which one it is and have no idea why I even bought the darn thing since I don't like calla lilys in general and black flowers in particular (don't mind that black part because I don't like green flowers either) Maybe I just bought it to throw it in the dump??????

By the way I don't drink so know it wasn't that.

the doctor said, "You are in fine shape for your age, but tell me, do you still

stepped out into the crowded reception room and yelled out loud: "Bob, do we

Yes robin, we don't care if you are 69 we love you anyway. I ONLY said it was my fault. Didn't admit I started it. WHO started the look at my want list thing? Who wanted that hibiscus? WHO WHOOT did that? I didn't start it, just got suckered in by that cue_chik. I was in a weak moment. Someone took advantage of me in my weak state of mind.

ROTFL, Mindy, you're precious! This is gonna be the Community Goth Garden, since everyone has done so much to help me put it together! There are black flowers sprouting in pots on my patio as we speak.. all given by wonderful DGers. every single flower that is going into this Goth Garden has been given to me. You gals (and guys) are just fabulous!

Well, its about how innocence is lost. its set to a Gothic circus theme.. a young girl carrying a doll comes upon a ratty old tent, enters inside.. and finds things there she has never seen. make a long story short, she wanders thru all of the seedy poeple, and by the time she exits, she no longer is the innocent little girl she was, and the doll is left behind...
