Our home is in an historic neighborhood and the lots it small. We have diligently looked into installing an in-ground pool. We really want a pool!!! To do this we must move sewer & gas lines, bury main electric to our home, rip the driveway up to install all the above. Plus remove the fairly new windows in our home and install a tempered version. All in all the little project would cost in the neighborhood of around 50,000 K. Insane for us. We are almost 100% go with a plan for installing a nice above ground pool and decking. Our home by sheer luck has an existing deck off of the back room that is elevated 4' our lot slopes. Meaning a standard 4' above ground pool would fit in seamlessly off the house. We would remove most of the existing deck and reconfigure the area. Fortunately when we gutted the inside of our home 15 years ago we had dedicated electrical added to this area outside for either a pool or hot tub. We would like to install a shade sail system above all of this with fans attached to the poles giving us a little breeze in the pool/deck area. The area faces west and we are in Texas... The house is blocked now with a retractable awning that is leaving us.
Reading through a lot of the threads here there are some fantastic looking additions that you'all have made. Does anyone have any pics or suggestions for this project. I will try and get some pics of the space in a few days, The space is a rectangle shape, we are looking at a 12X15 oblong pool. The shake shingles that cover our home will be removed, insulation and hardi plank with Texas stone will be installed. The room that the deck leads off of is a new addition that was added in the 1960's, an "A" frame so we have a tall peak to incorporate into the shade sail and this would cover all the windows including the stain glass inserts at the top.
This project will go on for the next year. In our summers we are almost prisoners indoors, just to hot for us to tinker outside in 100+ temps.
We are really looking at the entire space as a blank canvas.
Please don't be shy!!!!! Any and all comments are appreciated.
Thank You Karen
