I got mine as a small tree and it grew very happily for more than 10 years, then two years ago one of its main branches died off. I followed an advise to give it extra fertilisation to stimulate the growth and so fight of the dreaded lethal fungus Verticillium dahliae disease. It worked wonders the next year with only one small branch dying off.
But this year the disease stroke back with full force causing one of the big branches to die completely and some others start showing symptoms too.
I love this tree sooo much but realise its a goner, I would so much like to replace it with another JM..
I know it is not recommended to plant one in the same place, but then I was wondering if there is not a way around that, as this is really the only place I can have it, I only have a small town garden..
What if I remove all the soil that harbours the fungus spores or dig in a real giant pot or maybe there are types that would be more resistant to the disease though I would love one that is very similar to Ozakazuki..I like its delicate pinkish green colours in spring and then the fresh green in the summer and the fiery red in autumn.
Thanks for any advise!
To be sure it is the fungus I took a picture of the cutting side of a withering young branch like I have read in one of the very knowledgeable threads in this forum.
