...and a host of good wishes for healing for my daughter. She had a freak accident early Saturday night and completely severed her quadricep tendon just above her left knee. She had surgery at 2 a.m. Sunday morning and she's still in the hospital. Don't know when she'll be released but I've measured all the pertinent stuff, e.g., bed height, showers, toilet, door openings, etc. It is going to be a bear when she goes home and can't maneuver as usual. Yesterday, I got there and discovered they'd delivered a walker - for $251!!!
First of all, if any of you have gone through something like this, please share your experience. From all that I've read online, it seems to be a long, drawn out rehab involving tons of PT. Second, if you've had to use helping devices in the past and have anything to loan, I'd be grateful. (They ordered the walker before I measured and it will not even go between the end of her bed and the dresser! Not ever sideways.) Her OT has already said that practically nothing is covered by insurance. If anyone has thoughts on any services not covered by insurance, I'd love to hear about it.
This accident comes as a huge whammy just as she starts the divorce process to get free of her philandering husband. When she does go home, the only person there to help is her 10 y/o son. Needless to say, she is terribly stressed. I've never gone through anything like this before so it's all new to me, but I need to help as much as possible.
