Good morning!

Cloudy, fairly calm and 58F at 9 am this morning ... could see 60F again today :-) The rain that was forecast for the entire week is a no show ... I'm not complaining ... but it would have been nice to get one day of rain so I wouldn't have to water the garden ;-) I think I need to get the hose out...

Joey! Hi! AW JW is so cute ... and so is Yeager .. what a cute dog :-)

Ric - lol ... yeah the toothfairy does visit Iceland nowadays ... didn't when I was a kid though ... never heard of the toothfairy growing up ;-)

Hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning! What a sunny mornin' it is, too! The temp is 70 & it's only supposed to get to about 75! :D I think we're gonna get some rain this afternoon. I won't water flowers much this morning...hoping that it will.

Ric, Those Shaker's look really great! You & Robyn have done so many nice things to your house! Gee! Look at all of the 'babies!" Wow!
Sharon! LOL! I think we need to see the "dorky hat" look! :D I personally don't wear hats, because after I take one off I feel like it's still on my head! :D Love the Daff...You must have one super long blooming season!
Rann, I'm glad that the tooth fairy comes to Iceland! That pretty little smile needs some kind of reward! ;) Your garden looks so Lush!
Kiska, Glad that Mt. Redoubt is waning! I hope that the earth quakes do too. The GK's look very happy to see the grandparents! :D
Celia! Let's see some of those pics! :D Can't wait! :D
Pepper, What a neat drive! "shady lanes"... :D

Have a GREAT DAY!

Celia just Lovely!

Those are the windmills we're reconditioning.
They ship the gear boxes all the way here.

I've been to both the Falls and the Dam.
Love those ponds.
That's some PRETTY Country!

Looks like the Family up there is doing just fine. Lovely Portrait!

Well we might as well be up there.
It's still just 66 and light rain off and on.
We went to KMart, looking for solar lights, no luck but did get some nice spikes.
Lowes, had the lights and the trim.
And our monthly stop at Walmart.

74 cloudy and cool. We went from the 90's all last week to closing windows this week. I've been frantically weeding, trying to stay ahead of the mosquitos. I got 3 large beds done. DH has been helping weed the garden and we've dug a few potatoes. Peas seem to be done. Stripped the vines this morn, and have a patty pan squash almost ready to pick. Eating the swiss chard too.

Sorry to not comment. I have a lot to catch up on.

Really nice today with a high around 83 and a breeze.

Sharon, I drive about 3-4 miles from work and it's about 4 miles to the center of town (from the house) and it takes 10-15 minutes to both areas since I take gravel. If I drive 55 mph or so I could get there in 5 but I have only driven that fast a few times. Fastest I will go is about 45 but usually I'm creeping along at 35-40.

It takes 10-15 minutes to get anywhere from here at home. LOL.

Wow--I'm away for one day and now I'm behind again!
Kelli: love that sunset. Were those apple trees in the photo with the coyote? Do coyotes eat apples?
Sharon: Justin looks like he is ready for a trip through the Australian outback in that hat. LOL
Pepper: pretty daylilies and peaceful looking country lane. There are a lot of roads like that in our county--the streets in Cabot will be all clear after a snow in the winter but the country roads will sometimes take days to thaw out. Therefore, the Cabot schools will be closed for several days because our school district encompasses not only Cabot but the smaller nearby towns of Austin and Ward and a lot of the county, too.
Joey: JW is growing up but he still has some baby fat left--Such good sugar under that little chin! :o)) Buttered Popcorn is gorgeous and I love the edible kind, too! LOL
Celia: welcome back! Absolutely Fabulous photos!--thanks for the "tour". The photo of RAiney, Amber and Liza is excellent and they are all happy looking. Liza's hair-do is so cute!
Kiska: I know you are enjoying the gkids and I am sure they are having a good time, too. The reindeer looks as if it is "molting" its winter coat.
BP: I think I'm going to move in with you--I could stand some weather like 74F and cloudy. My windows haven't been open in weeks!

Yesterday afternoon I just knew we were going to get some rain. A big black cloud blew over, things cooled off and the wind was blowing. It rained about 5 drops and then went right on to the northeast! Just a little south of us there was a hard rain and they even had some golf-ball-sized hail. You would have "thunk" that some of that rain would have made its way up to my house, but no. :o((

Here's what the cloud looked like.

Marilyn, those are grapefruit trees. I don't think coyotes eat citrus. (They don't eat the ones in our yard.) They will eat other fruits, though. They eat wild fruits and a while back there was coyote poo in our yard that had loquat seeds in it. That coyote is probably after ground squirrels or gophers. (More power to him.)

Pretty beach Kelli :-) The water looks very inviting ...

Our rabbit Fra somehow manged to rip out a nail on her front paw ... it's completely gone and I've been struggling for 2 hours to stop the bleeding ... she's not a very cooperative patient unfortunately ... I think the bleeding is finally stopped after generous helpings of "sure clot" ... hope it won't start again ... (sigh) .. it was pretty messy.

Junk in a yard makes good 'Yard Art' if used correctly.

Mau One of the reason I wanted to move was due to the people (at the old house) across the street from us who had a fondness for fireworks. Drove me and the pets nuts. I dont miss them LOL!
Celia I love your new camera! You are taking great pics!
Ric- What setting should I use to take pics of the fireworks? We are planning to go go the beach to watch them.

I bought 2 of these because they were labeled "full sun annual". I had them hanging out front, but have put them on the back porch because "full sun" almost killed them. Any ideas on an ID?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RANN!

Sharon shooting fireworks is pretty easy ONCE you get the tricks down.
But you will need a tripod and a shutter release to get the best results.
Check your manual and go on line w/ tips on your specific camera brand and model.
There are tons of advice sites.
Here's a few basics though.
http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-photograph-fireworks
http://photojojo.com/content/guides/11-tips-for-sparkling-fireworks-photos/
http://www.prophotohome.com/taking-pictures-of-fireworks-july-2009-peter-gregg

I've seen that flower but am drawing a blank...lol!

Bernie I wish we were close enough to get to that market!
Ours is a pale imitation.

Nice N/W breeze, 70 going for 80 and Sunny!
Off to the yard.

Good Morning! :D It will be another 'cool' day. Yesterday we got up to 72! w/ heavy cloud cover. We only got a few sprinkles, but the garden (7 miles away) got 2 good soakings! I picked peas, cabbage, & brocolli. Yesterday I picked squash - zuccini & hubbard (yellow).

Sharon, I don't know what your pretty yellow flower is, but it looks tiny. Glad that you didn't kill it! It looks so familiar... Haven't you gotten anyone to wear your hat yet? LOL!
Kelli, Thanks for the video! Really neat! And the Coyote! It looked like you were up close & personal! Too close for me, but then again we've had a bad experience w/ them.
Adina, Your yard is looking so nice. Grass & flowers can really help make a yard feel so 'homey'. :D
Ric...Yep, you & Robyn have really done a nice job on you place. And you know what they say...'Waste no - want not". :) And thanks for the tips (links) I'll have to give it a try! :D
Celia! What Gorgeous Pics! You hooked me w/ the water shot! I had to go back & look at all of them again! ;) And Yes! we like baseball at this house! I think it's the only sport that we All like. The girls pose so nicely! :D Love the b&w!
Mau! Hope you get some rain very soon!
Rann, I hope that your bunny is better today. :)

Have a Great! Day! & Have a Happy 4th! :D I probably won't be back until the 5th...tomorrow w/ be full of a parade, family reunion, & then the big fireworks! Enjoy!!!

Marilyn, could that be a bulbine?

Happy Birthday, Rann! :-)

Your photos are gorgeous, Celia. Oregon is very high on my I-want-to-visit-there-someday list.

Bernie, the lilies are beautiful!!

I need to run to the store to buy food to make dinner for a friend who recently had a baby. She wants me to come by a bit early and help her get photos from her camera to her computer. Generally people ask my husband to help with computer stuff, but these are photos of the home birth and she doesn't want any un-related males to see them before she edits out the more graphic ones. LOL

Our weather is the same as has-become-usual... Very hot, unusually low humidity (for us... Kelli would probably think 55% is pretty high! LOL), and no chance of rain. Today we have a "Special Weather Statement"...
...NEAR RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES EXPECTED OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND...

HOT AFTERNOONS ARE IN STORE FOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS OVER THE FOURTH OF JULY
WEEKEND AS STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS ACROSS THE AREA.
AFTERNOON HIGH TEMPERATURES EACH DAY WILL BE NEAR OR ABOVE RECORD LEVELS
AT MANY LOCATIONS...AND HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL PEAK IN A 102 TO 107
RANGE. A HEAT ADVISORY MIGHT BE NEEDED.

THOSE VENTURING OUTSIDE OVER THE NEXT THREE DAYS SHOULD PREPARE THEMSELVES
FOR THE INTENSE HEAT. USE LIGHT WEIGHT AND LIGHT COLORED CLOTHING. TRY
TO AVOID PROLONGED OUTDOOR ACTIVITY DURING THE HOTTEST TIME OF THE DAY.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER TO AVOID DEHYDRATION. MAKE SURE INDOOR LOCATIONS
ARE PROPERLY AIR CONDITIONED. MAKE SURE BOTH THE YOUNG AND THE ELDERLY
ARE SAFE...AND THAT THE PETS HAVE SHADE AND PLENTY OF WATER.

HEAT RELIEF IS EXPECTED TO COME NEXT WEEK. THE STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH
PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL WEAKEN AND DRIFT WESTWARD. BOTH DECREASING AFTERNOON
HIGH TEMPERATURES AND INCREASING RAIN CHANCES CAN BE EXPECTED.
I'm looking forward to "decreasing afternoon high temperatures and increasing rain chances"!!!

Happy birthday, Rann!

Sharon, your flower might be wishbone flower (Torenia) http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/162672/

As for the coyote, I took the photo with the zoom setting. Still he was more bold than usual.

It will be pretty hot again today. We were going to go to the Arboretum, but I got a blister on my foot and can't wear shoes. Grrr!

This beach is usually not very crowded. Most people stay between the rocks and the point of land in the distance. There were a ton of people at Zuma Beach yesterday. That's the big teeny-bopper beach for this area. I tried taking a video in the car down there but there was too much traffic and the road is too low to get good views of the ocean.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RANN! Due to the time difference, your birthday is about over by now. Hope it was a good one!

I have a positive ID on the flower in my pic above--it is a crocosmia--"George Davison" by name. Kathy Ann, a DGer who lives about 40 miles from me gave it to me last September. A large percentage of the flowers inmy garden have come from Kathy Ann--bless her generous heart!
Sharon, I hope you get an ID on your flower soon. I haven't a clue as to what it is but I'm glad you saved it from the sun.
Celia: When Tomato Soup blooms out, please do take a photo of it for us. I bought two in a co-op but they aren't blooming yet.
Bernie: great looking veggies and pretty lilies.
Joey: Make up the extra bed for me--I'm moving in with you until it cools off down here---LOL (I wish!!)
Marylyn: sounds like you and your family need to move in with Joey for a little while, too! (or BP or Ric)
Kelli: I enjoyed both of the video clips. Now I can say I have been up Mulholland Highway! Were those dolphins jumping in the beach video or were they surfers in their wetsuits? It was hard to tell.

Not quite as hot today--It's only 91F right now! I had the soaker hose going in the flowerbeds this morning.

Here's a shot from our beach vacation at Tybee Island in March.

Bernie I bet you sold out of everything at the market! Beautiful lilies and yummy veggies!
Ric Thanks for the info. I had the tripod, but not the remote. So I dragged Jeff to my favorite mall in Jax to buy one LOL! Bought a couple of other things too and had dinner at Montana Grill (which was deeeeliicius!).
Joey No one has volunteered to model the hat, so Ill have to be sneaky about it.
Marylyn Stay cool in those high temps. Its been a brutal summer this year.
Celia Verry pretty bloom
Kelli Thats it! Torenia! Well, its not a full sun annual. Shame on Lowes.
Mau Nice beach pics! Thanks for sharing the video, its great!

Wind: 0.0 mph
Wind Gust: 0.0 mph

Heat Index: 76 F

Now
The combination of light winds...mostly clear skies and moist air in place will promote areas of fog development through the early morning. Localized dense fog will reduce the visibility below a half mile. Be on the lookout for sudden changes in visibility. The patchy nature of the fog will drop visibilities quickly in a short distance. In addition...visibilities may become severely restricted near rivers...lakes...bridges...and low lying areas.

Today
Areas of dense fog and low clouds through the early morning with visibility below a quarter mile...then partly cloudy. High 92. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph shifting to the southeast 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon.

Happy 4th of July to those of you in the US :-) Hope you have a great day!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone :-) Yesterday didn't quite turn out as wonderful as I'd hoped but that's life I guess ... bad days are unavoidable once in a while ... they just seem so much worse when it's supposed to be a good day, especially when it starts out just perfect. :-( On the bright side I did get a delicious cake DH bought me and my parents and sister came over, so it wasn't a total loss...

Anyway, we're off on vacation now :-) We'll be spending a few days in a summer cottage close to here (see photo) :-)

Yesterday was perfect, with rain in the morning and early afternoon. Quit raining and temps were perfect for fireworks last night at Powell Gardens. As soon as that was done it started sprinkling so we had to get all the electrical stuff in and got them in just in time cause a little while later it poured. lol. Lots of lighting and thunder last night.

Today it's a bit humid and just a tad hot but really not too bad.

I got some pics of the fireworks last night and will post them tonight if I get a chance or tomorrow.

Well the rain hit steady about 4 PM.
It actually started about 2 but was so light we were able to keep working outside under the trees till 3:30.
The rain's supposted to last all night.
We need it as our late season potaoes are just coming up.
AND we actually have a tomato ripening!

Fireworks are going crazy now... a little rain won't stop them.
It is noticeably quieter than in years past.
Used to sound like a battle zone here.

Rann what a lovely place!

Bernie we stopped at our local produce market.
It's early in the season for most crops here but we did get some eggs.

Here's Robyn's new step.
All the interior wood are recycled cedar pieces from a porch our neighbors tore down of scrapes from the deck.
She still has to finish filling and seal it.

LOL about turning on the furnace.
We've turned on the AC in the winter to get the humidity down...

Well about 9 PM the fireworks started.
At about 11 they mostly stopped.
Ohio is strange.
You can buy fireworks legally but not set them off in OH.
Which of course means everyone stocks up and blasts away.
Well some of our local kids were blasting away at the end of OUR street at 3 AM.
I AM going over to have a little talk w/ Mom here in a bit.

The rain has ended and as soon as the dripping stops we'll head out and get to work.

We sat on our front porch last night and watched the illegal fireworks with the hose at the ready. I had the camera out and the neighbors across the street had the nerve to shoot them over the house in plain view of it. Dodos.

The people next to them gave their 10 year old the lighter and he spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how to work it. When he did, he spent 15 minutes throwing ground flowers into the street. Which he was kind enough to leave there when he was finished.

Two streets over, some...were shooting the big mortar fireworks! We did have the pleasure of watching the police issue a citation to one and arrest another! Woo hoo!

Around 1:45am, those same folks decided to finish shooting the last mortars and were both arrested 10 minutes later. Gotta love a dope.

Last fall, just before Thanksgiving, our neighbor was going to lite up something big. It went off a little early. He now has an arm that ends at the elbow. He was one of these macho guys!

Haven't heard much happening here. Lots of towns have displays. They are supervised pretty close.

We bought a new trailer today, so spent the afternoon working on a box for it. We got a 80" x 12 ft utility trailer. Building our own box will save about $3500.00. Also can make it the way we want it!
We will use it to haul things to farmers market in the summer & cabinets when we need it.
We had to borrow trailers to haul cabinets before.

Adina I agree we Celia you guys have done a Marvelous job on the yard.
Heck the whole place.
It's been fun watching it go from Field to Home. Kudos!

Harvested our first tomato this evening.
OK it was a Grape Tomato but... it IS a vine ripe!

We got a lot done outside today.
It was an absolutely beautiful day for anything.
Low 80's and not a cloud.
It will slowly rise in temps each day toward mid 90's by Friday.
Oh well we knew it was coming, temps in the 60 at night though so...

Prepped a bunch of the used porch boards and got all our frames ready.
And lest you forget. ALWAY's think Job Safety!

Ric

High of 84, sunny and it will get hotter as the week goes on til we are close to 100 at the end of the week.

My grandma and I enjoyed the weather today. Since I had the day off I took her to Powell Gardens so she could check it out when it wasn't so hot. Normally we go during the Festival of Butterflies during the first or second week of August. Plus she got to ask the gardeners questions and we can't do that during weekends. lol

Mole that was tearing up our yard. He got caught by the trap we set out but it didn't kill him like it normally does. Took advantage of that and got a few pics of him. Now you know what one looks like. He's no bigger than a decent sized mouse.
