| Landscaping92, I think the people in this forum don't know you have the wonderful pictures of your tree to help identify it. Possibly mark in your heading that pictures are available on a link. I wish I could help you. Hope this helps.

Or, stop linking every time you want an ID, and post the pics here, like everyone else does. =)

| Is there a rule on this website that says you can not link. |

| Nope, no rule. But, why make people go to external sites and jump through hoops to help you? |

| I personally ignore links like that and I can't be the only one. I feel that if it isn't important enough for the poster to post the photo here (and it really is too easy) then why should it be important enough for me to follow the link, especially when so many times in the past I would open the link and it doesn't actually open the photo but rather a page that tells me I have to join some site to view the photos, so I just don't bother.
So no, there's no rule, but maybe some consideration for the folks you are asking to help ID your plant? |

| As stated by a far better pitchman than me:
| Quoted: | | No rules - just right. |
I have three very good reasons to not follow links, especially when even a Cro-Magnon like me (advanced from Neanderthal last year) can post multiple pics here.
•Really slow dialup speeds mean the plant has gone dormant by the time the new webpage and photos load up to look at
•Links die unnatural deaths, leaving the posting/thread here with no reference ballast and thus it sinks into oblivion helping no one in the advance of gardening/ID knowledge
•as azreno notes, links lead to ads and other e-garbage that further bogs down this poor old system unnecessarily
What certainly should be ignored are individuals who have joined this website under multiple aliases in relatively recent memory, and have a habit of sidestepping understood and accepted conventions here.
THAT isn't a rule, either - but it sure gets the attention of those that make them. |

| Thankyou Carlos I think you have the id correct I look at pictures of the plant on the internet and they look like the one I am posting about. Also Viburnum Valley what do you mean by I wonder If Plants555 and a grassman1 can offer assistance are you using that statement as a joke. |

| i think landscaping92 is getting a bad rap here. while i can appreciate the comments made by the others, i think in this case, the comment from eggs is just rude. if he/she really is grassman or someone else, dave will correct the situation but if you look at all the threads l92 has started, it doesn't look to me like anything fishy is going on. i've seen many threads over the years with links rather than an up front picture in this forum and although i'm leery myself of clicking on them, it's not against any dg law that i know of.
give the guy/gal a break. |

| I agree with trackinsand. That's why manners exist - you have to respect each individual person's methods.
Is grassman and PLANTS555 that bad? I have been here only two or three years so far, far less than that on this forum. |

'scuse me? What comment did I make that was even remotely rude?
Landscaping92, aka grassman1, aka PLANTS55, is a nymshifter which is rude in and of itself. Dave's provides a means of uploading photos in this forum for the purpose of identifying the plant(s) in question. Please note the very first line at the top of this forum:
| Quoted: | | Do you have a mystery plant or tree? Post an image (preferred) and/or a detailed description, and your fellow gardeners will help you figure out what it is. |
It doesn't say "Post a link and make others jump through hoops to help you." Note that in the context of that sentence, "(preferred)" means in lieu of just a description and not in lieu of a link (which is never mentioned).
No, I made no rude comment. The first rude comment made in this thread was the reply to my post. I made a simple suggestion to follow the conventions of this forum, and received a reply reminiscent of an adolescent wanting very much to be different from everyone else. Rather than state a valid reason for constantly posting links, the reply was about whether or not it was against some rule, somewhere. No, no rude comment from me, and I'll stand firmly by everything I've said.

| I was not rude, but I am sorry you took it that way. I stand by my opinion. It is really easier to post the photo from your computer than the link and such a considerate thing to do. |

You should probably ask Landscape92. Though, I doubt you'd get a valid reply. You'd probably get, "Is there a rule that says you can't?"
"nymshifting" goes back to Usenet and refers to someone who frequently changes their online identity. |

| azreno, i didn't take your response as rude. i concurred with what you said, which is why i don't usually click on links either. however, i do and many others do provide additional links from outside sources when trying to id a particular plant and i don't see much difference in the initial poster providing an outside link to their plant. |

| Providing information in the form of a reply about a plant in question, via an outside link, is quite different from linking to photos on nearly-every-single-request for an identification. |
